It’s always been in my life. It’s been with me for the happy times in my life and the sad times. Most recently, it kept me company while I sobbed during Toy Story 3.
I love reading the back story on how Kleenex was created and I’d love to share it with you!
About Kleenex:
Did you know that Kleenex was created in 1924? It was envisioned as a disposable cleansing tissue but they didn’t know yet what it would clean!
It was eventually trademarked as a cold cream or makeup remover. The name Kleenex is likely a combination of the word “cleansing” (shortened to “clean”) while the capital “K” and the “ex” ending were adopted from Kotex, one of the first products that Kimberly-Clark had created.

The first Kleenex ad appeared in Ladies Home Journal as “the new secret of keeping a pretty skin as used by famous movie stars”. Soon the ads were appearing in all of the magazines and screen stars were endorsing Kleenex!
At this same time, Kimberly Clarke’s head researcher was suffering from hay fever. He started using the tissues instead of his handkerchief. It was a simple but brilliant idea to market the tissues for sneezing and other nose needs! In 1930 the concept of using Kleenex tissue as a subsituite for handkerchief’s caused their sales to double! It was now being used by men, women and children!
Since then Kleenex has been the Number One brand of facial tissue in the world and is a global icon!
