I love seasonal decorating, but sometimes I’d like fun, festive decor that went more with my color scheme! Last week, I was at one of my best friend’s houses and I spied the most beautiful autumn decoration: a pumpkin she had covered in black and white damask scrapbooking paper! Brilliant, right? So I had the hubby do a “craft pumpkin run” at Michaels on the way home from the office and I got out my Mod Podge and some paper that went with the colors in my house!
I attached the strips of paper from the top where the stem attaches down to the middle of the bottom of the pumpkin. The angles were hard to work with, but if you find you have orange peeking out, just add another strip of paper. Coat the pumpkin with Mod Podge and also the strip of paper after you’ve attached it. Then smooth with your hands.
It’s wonderfully haphazard. I’m such a messy Mod Podger! There is just something about it that I love: getting your fingers gooey and messy and doing something artsy! I think it goes back to childhood and fingerpaints.
Let dry, and there you have it!
I need to top them off with leaves of some sort. Felt just doesn’t seem right… maybe a shiny paper of some sort? Do you have any suggestions?
And look how pretty they are with my dining room curtain!
Things I learned: Don’t touch the wet paper too much! Sadly, it comes apart if you put your sticky fingers on it repeatedly. Also, next time I will use pumpkins that don’t have the deep grooves so the paper is easier to adhere.
Thank you, Tycie! You are creative and I’m glad you let me steal your ideas! So… whatcha have for winter decorating?
