Thank a Teacher with Munchkin Donuts {Teacher Appreciation Week}

I KNEW that Teacher Appreciation Week was coming up and I kept browsing Pinterest for cute ideas. But I’m a procrastinator and I knew I wasn’t going to get to the store by Monday. Luckily, I saw this cute idea over on Happy Home Fairy and decided this would be a great gift for Hayden’s teachers and I wouldn’t even have to get out of my car and go to the store to do it!

Thank a Teacher with Munchkin Donuts

I decided to make my own printable over on PicMonkey to include with the Munchkin Donuts that are available at Dunkin’ Donuts. You can print the Thank You for Taking Care of our Little Munchkin template and below are steps to include your child’s photo on it!

Head over to PicMonkey {it’s free!} and upload a picture of your child. Once it’s uploaded, use the Crop tool. Change it from No Fixed Proportions to Square. Center the square around your child’s head. Once you’ve done that, hit Apply.

Once you have just your child’s head in the square, click on Frames and then Rounded Corners. You can then move the Corner Radius until it’s a complete circle and then make sure to select on Transparent Corners. Then, click on Apply and then Save the picture.

Then, open up a new project and upload the Munchkin printable. Once it’s uploaded, click on the Overlays button. Then, select the Your Own button. You’ll be able to upload the picture of your child you just made into a circle. Then, move it over the orange Starburst. Save and then print!

I printed the template in a 4×6 size on cardstock. I brought some tape with me in the car, went through the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru to order some Munchkins {only $5!} and taped it on the side of the box.

Hayden loved bringing this into school and giving it to his teachers and they got to enjoy a sweet treat for all that they do for him!

DIY Fruit Christmas Tree

We recently went over to my Mom’s house to help decorate her Christmas Tree {Hayden is SO into Christmas, so we are making the rounds and helping people decorate their trees. You need help? Give us a call!} and my Mom went all out on snacks.

Hayden is a fruit lover, so she made him his very own Fruit Christmas Tree, which he loved! You can use whatever fruit you love, but since Hayden loves grapes, raspberries and strawberries, that is what my Mom used.

Materials and Ingredients

- 1 Green Styrofoam Cone {Purchased from Michael’s or craft store{

- Toothpicks

-  Assorted Fruit {This tree was made of grapes, raspberries and a Strawberry Star. A pineapple in the shape of a star would be cute too!}

 Create

- Cover the Styrofoam cone in toothpicks.

- Attach fruit to toothpicks.

- Enjoy!

What fruit would you put on your Christmas Tree?

P-Inspiration: Teacher’s Gifts

{P} Inspiration: Teacher’s Gifts

I can hardly believe that the school year is over and it’s time for summer! This week is Hayden’s last week of school and I’ve been searching Pinterest for some inspiration for fun teacher’s gifts! He loves all of his teachers so much and they have done so much for him this year. I knew Pinterest would have some great ideas!

Below are some of my favorites! I still haven’t decided what we will do. I better get on it!

DIY Colored Pencil Vase

How gorgeous is this DIY Colored Pencil Vase from Happy Clippings? Her tutorial is great and looks like something I could actually do! I love how bright and colorful it is and it would look great with some pretty flowers!

Strawberry Gift Basket

Another fantastic idea, this one from eighteen 25! I love gifts that have a theme! You could easily get some great strawberry {or any other berry} scented items from Bath and Body Works to fill up this basket. Our berries usually come in plastic containers so I’d have to hunt for these at some grocery stores.

Thank You For Helping Me Grow

This gift from the blog Giggles Galore might be my favorite. I know that Hayden’s teachers have really helped him grow this past year and I think this is such a sweet sentiment and clever idea. It also looks like something semi-easy that I could do! ;-)

Sharpies and Smarties

I love all of the creative ideas from little pumpkin grace and this is one of my favorites! She has a lot of great ideas for teacher appreciation, but this one thanks teachers for helping the children become “smarties” and “sharpies” that year!

Have you made anything for your child’s teacher? Leave a link in the comments, I’d love to see it!

Throw a SUPERHERO Party for The Avengers

The hottest movie in theaters right now is The Avengers and if you haven’t seen it yet you must GO and see it as soon as possible! It’s truly a fun movie for the family or a great date night movie {which is what my husband and I did!}.

I think throwing themed parties are so much fun, so why not throw an Avengers-themed party? Check out these great tips from Ms. Ricky Eisen, Founder and President of Events and Celebrations.

Invitations: Start your party off right with the perfect invitation. You can make your own postcard invitations with cardboard cut-outs of bright blue painted stars, and include the details about your party in a thin black marker. Decorate the front of each with classic comic book words like POW!, ZAP! And WAM!

Décor: The Avengers bring together 6 epic superheroes. Create your own easy decorations with cardboard cutouts of spiders and paint them black, neon green head’s of The Hulk and classic American flags for Captain America and, throughout the party, use bold colored streamers, which will add some mystery to the room.

Centerpieces: Choose your favorite Avenger and decorate the table around that character. Use lots of primary colors, since comic strips are usually blue, yellow and red. Print outs of comic book pages covered in contact paper make great placemats. Blanket your tables with these to tie the décor together and include stars, spiders and Hawkeye cut-outs on wooden sticks around the table with silver confetti.

Music: Keep the music simple but fun. “Live to Rise,” the original song written for and appearing in the film is the first single from the Marvel Music/Hollywood Records release Avengers Assemble.  The epic and cinematic video, featuring a searing live performance with film footage, was directed by Robert Hales. I’m loving this song since it’s been so long since Soundgarden has been together! Check out the video of “Live to Rise”!

Menu: Mini snacks such as cut-out tea-sandwiches make great finger food. Look for cookie cutters in shields, stars and spiders to create these treats. For Incredible Hulk themed beverages, create trays of green ice cubes by freezing water with green food color, and WOW! guests as their clear citrusy beverages transform color before their very eyes.

Check out these adorable Avengers cake pops! I just wish I was that creative!

Party Favors: As a parting gift, place a few Avenger designed cookies in a cellophane bag and close with a gold twist-tie – your guests can enjoy the party for days to follow with these treats! Check out these Avengers themed cookies from Emily over at Family and Life in Las Vegas!

Have you seen The Avengers yet?

DIY “Daddy Cam” Frame

Hayden and I made this for Heath for Father’s Day last year, but I think it would be a great gift anytime of year!

It’s a super cute “Daddy Cam” which was originally posted on the blog AlphaMom.

Here’s what you need.

-Wood Blocks

-Nails

-Hammer

-Black Spray Paint or Black Acrylic Paint

-Sand Paper

-Paintbrush

-Small and Big Lids

I actually had a hard time finding the right size wood blocks. I went to Home Depot and when I gave them the measurements that AlphaMom emailed to me (4 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 3 inches thick) they weren’t able to give them to me. AlphaMom suggested asking to look in their scraps bin.  I used 4×4 blocks.

I bought sandpaper and black spray paint from Michael’s and used a peanut butter jar lid for the “lens” and a lid to a 20 oz. soda bottle for the “shutter button”.

I spray painted the wood block and lids outside. After drying overnight, nail the peanut butter lid to the  front of the block and the soda bottle cap to the top.

Then I just put the picture of Hayden in the “lens” and it was finished! Super cute on our bookshelf and Heath loves it!
