Recipe: Unsloppy Joes

I’m always looking for quick and easy meals that the whole family loves! A few weeks ago we tried Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes which was a huge hit! When I was watching TV the other day, I saw a commercial from Pillsbury showing a recipe for Unsloppy Joes and I knew I had to make them!

The best thing is they are so easy to make and my 5 year old was able to help me too! They also were delicious! We  served them with a side of salad and they were definitely filling!

Recipe: Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes

When browsing Pinterest a few weeks ago for freeze meals and new dinner ideas, I came across the site Six Sisters’ Stuff. How am I just discovering this amazing site?! It’s full of amazing recipes and crafts and I immediately started pinning ideas for recipes to freeze before the twins get here.

I came across their recipe for Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes and it sounded SO good. I am normally not a fan of Sloppy Joes at all but my husband is, so I figured that I would give it a try. Plus, I had most of the ingredients on hand. What happened is one of the most delicious meals that we have ever had!

There were only two ingredients that I didn’t have on hand – beef stock and mushrooms. My husband isn’t a big fan of mushrooms so I was okay leaving these off and decided to see how it was without the beef stock. AMAZING! I definitely need to try it with the beef stock though.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 chopped Onion
  • 1/4 cup of Steak Sauce
  • 1 cup of Beef Stock (I did without this!)
  • 1 chopped Green Pepper
  • 1 package sliced Mushrooms (I did without this!)
  • Provolone Cheese
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Buns/Rolls
Instructions
  1. Brown Ground Beef in large skillet for 5 minutes.
  2. Add onion, green pepper and mushrooms and cook another 3-4 minutes, until they start to get tender.
  3. Add in the steak sauce (I added a bit more!) and beef stock, season with salt and pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  4. Cut rolls and layer with cheese and toast under broiler.
  5. Scoop meat onto bun and ENJOY!

Have you ever tried a variety of Sloppy Joes other than the original?

Celebrating Halloween with SmartWhite for Kids Wonder Bread

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Wonder bread. All opinions are 100% mine.

I grew up eating white Wonder bread, an iconic brand that has been around for over 90 years! With over 20 different varieties, there’s something for everyone in my family to enjoy but I have been buying wheat bread for the past few years. Lately though I’ve been searching for a bread that is not only delicious but also has no high fructose corn syrup.

Recently, I discovered SmartWhite for Kids by Wonder Bread and not only is my son a fan, but I am too! I have been craving white bread and this is just so delicious! I feel good serving it in my house because it’s baked with no high fructose corn syrup and is only 50 calories per slice! It’s also fortified with the fiber of 100% whole wheat bread and contains the calcium of an 8-ounce glass of milk! I love that I am getting that taste of white Wonder Bread that I grew up loving and that it’s also good for my family too! This is definitely going to be our choice of bread going forward!

My husband and I love pretty much any kind of sandwich (My favorite is turkey, bacon, cheese and slices of apples – yum!) but my son is a bit more picky. He likes cheese sandwiches. That’s it! So in order to get him to try new food or toppings, I have to get a little creative.

Since it’s Halloween time and my son loves anything to do with the Holiday, I decided to make a Pumpkin Cheese Sandwich, complete with a stem (lettuce) and face (mustard). I was hoping the fun of the sandwich would make him branch out and try it!

Pumpkin Cheese Sandwich

- SmartWhite for Kids White Bread

- 2 Slices of American Cheese

- Lettuce

- Mustard

- Pumpkin Cookie Cutter

Hayden loved the sandwich! He thought it was so funny that it looked like a Jack O Lantern and didn’t hesitate to take a bite. I asked him how he liked the mustard on the sandwich (something he normally doesn’t eat) and he said it was yummy. He also is a big fan of the white bread and has even asked for some for breakfast!

If you’re looking for more sandwich inspiration, check out The Sandwich Wonder-izer! Here, you can create custom sandwiches, view the nutritional information of it and then share via Twitter and Facebook. I love all of the ideas I am getting over there!
