I’ve mentioned before that when a company does good, it makes me love them even more. If you’re in the St. Louis area, you’ll want to attend the DSW Back to School Event on Saturday, August 16th from 10am-2pm. It’s going to be full of so much fun with a ton of family-friendly activities but I love that they are also holding a shoe drive. Grant's Farm Logo

Visit Grant’s Farm in St. Louis #GrantsFarm60

Grant's Farm Logo

I’ve been a fan of going to Grant’s Farm as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always looked forward to field trips or when my Mom would take me there. When I became a parent, it was one of the first places we took my son when he was just a couple months old. If you’re not in St. Louis, Grant’s Farm is the 281-acre ancestral home of the Busch family {yes, Anhuser-Busch!}, and is home to more than 900 animals representing more than 100 different species. The Farm takes its name from Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States. In the 1850s, Grant founded and farmed a portion of the 281 acres. This year, Grant’s Farm is celebrating their 60th anniversary and there’s tons of new stuff this year to explore!

Grant's Farm Logo

We live very close to Grant’s Farm and are usually there a few times a year. For some reason, we JUST were able to visit last week but it was worth the wait. In addition to the family favorites of Clydesdale tours, baby goat feedings and camel rides, you’ll love the swan paddle boat rides on Mirror Lake and parakeet feedings that have been added this year.

When you arrive at Grant’s Farm, there’s now a few things you can do. You can head to the General Store {which we always save for last}, visit Mirror Lake for the swan paddle boat rides for $7 for 2 people or board the tram for a ride through the Deer Park.

The kids were anxious to see some animals, so we boarded the tram {you’ll have to take your kids out of the stroller, as they store the strollers separately on the tram. Also, no wagons allowed!} to ride through the Deer Park.

Deer Park

The Deer Park is home to a variety of exotic animal species from around the world, including Bison from North America , Black Buck Antelope from Europe, Red Deer from Asia and Europe, Zebra from Africa and more! There are also several beautiful lakes filled with fan-tailed goldfish and brilliant orange and white Japanese Koi. The Koi have been known to grow up to five feet in length and live to be 150 years old.

This is one of my favorite parts of a trip to Grant’s Farm. I love passing the home of President Grant and seeing all of the animals roaming around – sometimes so close to the tram!

Tier Garten and Animal Attractions

Once you exit the tram into the Tier Garten, there are a number of activities to enjoy!

Grant’s Farm Tip – Buy a Fun Pass for only $5! You’ll get 2 bottles of milk to feed the goats, a sno-cone and a carousel ride!

Grant's Farm Fun Pass

We always like to head to feed the goats first. You can buy bottles of milk to feed them. The best time is to feed them in the morning but you’ll find a hungry goat any time of day! We usually go in to feed them but Hayden opted to feed them from outside the fence today.

Grant's Farm Goats

Grant's Farm Goats Hayden

After the goats, we headed over for a carousel ride! It’s only $2.00 a person {but make sure you get the Fun Pass to save money!}. Hayden always has a blast and Evie also went on her first carousel ride! Olivia wasn’t too sure this time.

Grant's Farm Carousel

Then we set about exploring the rest of the Tier Garten! This is when you can get an up-close look to a ton of different animals like kangaroos, tortoises, colorful birds and more!

Grant’s Farm Tip: Bring some quarters so you can feed the camels!

Grant's Farm Elephants

Elephant Education – At Grant’s Farm, make sure to check out the Elephant Education Show. Guests will be introduced to members of the elephant herd and learn about their behavior and conservation in this interactive demonstration. Show Times: 11:15 am, 12:45 pm, 2:15 pm.

Animal Encounters – In the West Tier Garten Amphitheater, animals will entertain visitors with their athletic abilities in this close-up, interactive encounter. Show Times: 10:30 am, 12:00 pm,1:30 pm,3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

We loved visiting with the elephants and feeding the camels. While you’re here, don’t forget to feed the parakeets for only $1 {new this year!} and take a camel ride for $5.

Grant's Farm Flamingos

The Bauernhof

All of that animal interaction can work up an appetite! There is no food or drink allowed inside Grant’s Farm, so this is the place to head for lunch or a snack. {There are various stands throughout the Tier Garten too}.

I love the history to explore here. The Bauernhof, German for “farmstead”, was built in 1913 and was the first building constructed on the Busch family estate. The Busch family’s world-renowned carriage collection and stables are housed here and I always love reading about them.

Hayden Grant's Farm

We love grabbing some food and then sitting in the beautiful courtyard. You’ll want to take a seat and look around at the gorgeous German architecture. We actually sat here for well over an hour the other day and it was very relaxing. Of course, I enjoyed a HUGE pretzel with cheese. There’s also a variety of sandwiches, hot dogs and brats, German potato salad and more!

Grant's Farm Tables

Hayden Water Grant's Farm

Parents – I’ve saved the best for last! If you’re 21 years of age and older, head to the Hospitality Room to enjoy complimentary samples of Anheuser-Busch products. There’s a limit of 2 per adult. Right now, they are serving up the Grant’s Farm 60th Anniversary Beer – and it’s delicious! This was definitely my favorite and I hope they bottle it up soon!

Grant's Farm 60th Anniversary Beer

Clydesdale Stables

Once you leave the farm and head back to the parking lot, don’t forget to venture down to the end to check out the Clyesdale Stables. Grant’s Farm is the official “prep” school of the Budweiser Clydesdales. The Budweiser Clydesdale Stables are home to over 50 head of Clydesdales that vary in age from weanlings at 6 months of age to retirees of fifteen or older.

Grant’s Farm Scavenger Hunt

I’ve created a fun printable to bring with you on your next trip to Grant’s Farm! See if your little ones can spot all of the animals on the sheet!

Biergarten Bierfest Collage

Attend The 2014 Anheuser-Busch Biergarten Bierfest on July 11th #STLBierfest

Biergarten Bierfest Collage

I’m always looking for fun things for my husband and I to do during Date Night. We usually will grab dinner and a movie, but this Friday, July 11th I’m excited to be attending the first annual Biergarten Bierfest at Anheuser-Busch. We always love visiting Anheuser-Busch and it’s in our Top 5 list of places we tell our out of town friends and family to visit. We haven’t been since they opened up their Biergarten so I’m doubly excited to explore that and this new Bierfest.

Biergarten Bierfest Collage

On July 11 from 7-10 p.m. at The Biergarten Bierfest, guests can taste a variety of beers expertly paired with specialty menu items and meet with brewmasters to learn more about how beer can be the perfect complement to food. My husband and I love pairing different kinds of beers with our food so I’m interested to hear from the experts.

There will be five different stations to check out.

  • Unique to The Biergarten Station – To help celebrate St. Louis’ 250th anniversary, Anheuser-Busch is brewing Faust, first brewed in 1884 and now only available at The Biergarten and the Budweiser Brew House at Ballpark Village. This extremely rare beer will be poured at The Biergarten Bierfest and paired with Biergarten cheese, onion and bacon sliders. Guests can also enjoy Budweiser Premium Draught, which pours draft Budweiser 6 degrees cooler than standard draft units.
  • Belgian Trio Station –Coriander dusted and bacon wrapped bay scallops will be paired with Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe to accentuate the richness of the scallop dish without overwhelming the balance of flavors.
  • Bud Light Lime “Ritas” Station –  Lime-A-Rita, Straw-Ber-Rita, Mang-O-Rita and Raz-Ber-Rita will be paired with jerk chicken with pineapple and mango salsa. The sweet citrus notes in the Ritas will contrast the spice in the jerk chicken for a pleasing flavor.
  • Shock Top Station – Whether it’s the classic Belgian White, the Lemon Shandy or Twisted Pretzel Wheat, the Shock Top station will invite guests to try something new with their beechwood smoked ribs.
  • Apple Station – For a sweet experience, guests can enjoy Johnny Appleseed, Shock Top Honey Crisp Wheat and Stella Artois Cidre paired with apple crisp and honey.

Biergarten Bierfest

Bring me straight to the Shock Top Station! As for my husband, I know he will be excited to try Faust, a beer first brewed in 1884. What an awesome opportunity!

Buy Tickets to the Biergarten Bierfest

Adults 21 and older can buy tickets to the Biergarten Bierfest online. The event will take place Friday, July 11th from 7pm to 11pm.

- Regular tickets cost $25 and include 15 2-ounce samples of beer, five food pairing stations and a commemorative glass.

- VIP tickets cost $35 and include access to the beer and food pairing sample stations, a commemorative glass and hat, and a visit to the finishing tank where guests will taste fresh beer straight from the tank. {What?! How cool is that!!}

Stay updated on this event and more over on the Anheuser-Busch Brewery Biergarten Facebook page and by following @BiergartenSTL on Twitter.

Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to the event but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Organized Grocery Shopping with the Shop ‘n Save App

Did you know that Shop ‘n Save has a mobile app for your smartphone? I came across it several months ago and have used it on a weekly basis ever since. I cannot tell you how much time and money I have saved using this app. Check out the best features!

Organized Grocery Shopping

Store LocatorBefore you can fully utilize all the options available on the app, you will have to pick a home store. All you have to do is type in your ZIP Code and the nearest stores will appear. Simply click on the store of your choice and you can start using every feature of the app right away! When you choose a home location, you will have fast access to the store phone number, hours of operation, and an itemized list of all departments offered in the store.

I used to scribble my grocery list down on a magnetic pad of paper that was attached to my fridge. I always felt organized when I would plan for my grocery trip this way. However, it would often defeat the purpose when I would forget to grab the list on my way out to the grocery store. This has happened to me more times than I would like to admit.  Fast forward to my awesome, foolproof method of keeping track of my grocery list…the new and improved Shop ‘n Save App!

What is really cool about the app is that as you run out of items in your home, you just scan the barcode of the product before you toss it away. The App saves the item to your grocery list along with the price and weight of the item (4oz, 1 lb, etc). So not only is your grocery list saved permanently on your smart phone but it also keeps a running estimation of the cost of your next grocery trip. In addition, you have the ability to create your shopping list on the Shop ‘n Save website (www.shopnsave.com) and synchronize it with the App. My favorite part of creating and managing my grocery list on This app is the ability to check items off as I shop. Absolutely everything can be done on your smart phone with no need for pen or paper!

Grocery List

Another great feature with the Shop ‘n Save app is that the weekly ad can be found on it. However, what makes this feature unique compared to other retail websites is the fact that you can click on any sale item in the ad that you would like to purchase and it automatically transfers to your shopping list. Gone is the day when your mother would take a paper sale ad and a pen and just circle all the items that she would like to purchase! If you would rather scroll down an itemized list of sale items organized by categories (baby, produce, dairy, etc), you can do that too with the app. You can still add the item to your shopping list by clicking on the item under each category.

Weekly Ad

I was very excited when my local Shop ‘n Save added a drive-through pharmacy for convenience. But I was ecstatic when the shopnsave app added a quick and time-saving scan option for renewing pharmacy prescriptions. All I have to do is scan my prescription bottle in the app under the Pharmacy tab and my local store gets busy refilling my medicine the same day. There is an option to answer a few basic questions, if you prefer not to use the built-in scanner. I cannot tell you what a timesaver this is!

I highly recommend this app if you’re looking for the ultimate mobile/tablet grocery shopping experience!

Download the Shop ‘n Save app for iPhone.

Download the Shop ‘n Save app for Android.

Do you use an app for grocery shopping? Does your local store have an app?

Little Free Library

Take a Book and Give a Book with The Little Free Library!

Little Free Library

A few months ago, I shared some fun ways to teach kids how to read an a recipe for Alpha-Bit cereal bars. This summer, we are still making sure to read every day and Alpha-Bits also plays a big part in my son’s learning! Alpha-Bits is a great snack for us and we love seeing what words we can spell out with what is in our bowl. Something else we love is to tune into Super Why, which airs on PBS. It’s such a fun way to learn and even my younger girls love the show. I’m a huge fan of reading with my family, so I was excited to be able to take part of placing a Little Free Library in my community.

Little Free Library

Are you wondering what a Little Free Library is? A Little Free Library is a box full of books in your community where anyone can pick up a book for free and also bring in their old books. It’s that simple and spreads literacy throughout the community!

Little Free Library Story from Beargrass Media on Vimeo.

When thinking where I could place the Little Free Library I was given, I immediately thought of my church. We love Concord Trinity and it’s a wonderful community who I knew would love to get involved in this. Their Wednesday Workers crew happily installed the Little Free Library after adding a little paint. One it was installed, my son couldn’t wait to gather up some of his old books and head up to the library to pick out some new books.

If you’re in St. Louis, check out our Little Free Library at Concord Trinity Church. The address is: 5275 S. Lindbergh Blvd. Saint Louis, Missouri 63126.

Little Free Library and Hayden

Little Free Library Books

I believe that books should be available to all, no matter where you live or if you can afford them. I’m so glad that there is a Little Free Library in our community now. If you’re interested to see if there is one near you, check the Little Free Library map.

The great thing about the Little Free Library is that you can buy one yourself and install it in your community! To learn more, visit Little Free Library.

A huge thank you to POST Cereal for the opportunity to install a Little Free Library in my community and for what they are doing to help Little Free Library spread awareness of books for all!

Do you have a Little Free Library in your neighborhood?

I Marched for Babies at the March of Dimes 5K in St. Louis! #TeamKmart #Sponsored #MC

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Kmart. I received product samples and a travel stipend to attend an event, and I received a promotional item to thank me for participating and a donation was made on my behalf to March of Dimes.

I’ve always thought there was no way that I could participate in a 5K. I mean, I would love to but I just didn’t think I had it in me. When I heard about the March of Dime’s March for Babies 5K in St. Louis though, I knew I had to do it.

March of Dimes has a simple mission – We help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies.” As a Mom of 3, there’s nothing more important to me than my babies and my heart goes out to any Mom out there that has to face a health problem with their baby.

When I had the chance to march for babies as a part of Team Kmart, I jumped at the chance. Kmart is the number one corporate supporter of the March of Dimes Foundation and they have launched its unprecedented fourth decade of fundraising support for the cause, kicking off its 2014 campaign with new ways to donate, and rewards for giving for Shop Your Way members.

During the last three decades, Kmart has raised $114 million to help advance the critical work being done by the March of Dimes on behalf of newborns.

Amazing! So you can see why I was just so excited to walk on behalf of Team Kmart!

March for Babies Kmart

My whole family and I woke up bright and early to head to Forest Park in St. Louis {Fun Fact: Forest Park was the location of the 1904 World’s Fair and is larger than Central Park!} for the march. My son was so excited because there were a ton of booths to check out, a clown with balloon animals, face painting, a DJ and bounce houses!

Heath and Olivia March for Babies

Bounce Houses

Hayden and Me March for Babies

The DJ warmed up the crowd a bit and then after an amazing rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, we then heard from the emcee, Margie Ellisor from Fox 2 St. Louis. We also got to hear from the St. Louis 2014 Ambassador family Kurt and Ashley Schafluetzel and their baby Ella. We got to hear their story and I’m pretty sure everyone around me was tearing up as we saw that beautiful baby!

Then, we were off!

March for Babies

It was a GORGEOUS day out – finally! It was in the 70’s and sunny. We had some friends meet us there and we loved walking through scenic Forest Park. It was a refreshing walk and there were tents at each mile with volunteers handing out water. There was also a tent that handed out noisemakers, which my son loved!

March for Babies Walking

The last half mile of the March for Babies 5K was dedicated to the babies who were lost and to the preemies who were there at the walk. As we walked, I read each sign and the names of the children that March of Dimes helped. When I was pregnant with Olivia and Evie, I was constantly afraid that I would go into labor early since it can happen frequently with twin pregnancies. My husband and I prayed as we finished the walk with our 3 kids on how lucky we were and I am so thankful there is an organization like March of Dimes out there to help families.

Again, thank you so much to Kmart for sponsoring m to walk in the event! This year marked Kmart’s 22nd year as a national sponsor for the annual March for Babies® walks, which takes place this spring in 900 communities across the country.

Can’t walk but still want to help? Now through June 21, 2014, donors can contribute in-store at any Kmart and online via a link at kmart.com/marchofdimes, with 100 percent of funds raised benefitting the March of Dimes. This year, Kmart rewards its Shop Your Way members who donate in-store with a coupon for five percent back in points on their next qualifying in-store or online merchandise purchase. Also new this year, Kmart introduced a collectible puppy figurine, available in-store or online for just $5, with $1 from each sale benefitting the March of Dimes.

For more information or to donate, visit kmart.com/marchofdimes. Members are also encouraged to follow the Shop Your Way March of Dimes page at ShopYourWay.com/marchofdimes!

St. Louis: “Share the Warmth” Contest and DollarHelp Program with Laclede Gas #STL

CardsVacationFBImage (1)

I am so ready for Spring to come. The weather these last few months have been full of bitter cold. I haven’t left the house much with my three kids just because I don’t want them exposed to it. I remember last month when we had that big snow and temperatures dropped into the negatives, I was so worried about people out there that were homeless or wouldn’t be able to afford to keep their heat on. Thanks to Laclede Gas and the United Way, you can very easily help others that are in need.

DollarHelp Program

Laclede Gas and the United Way have teamed up on the DollarHelp program to provide relief to residents who struggle to pay their heating bills. It’s so easy – simply check the red box on their gas bill to donate one dollar a month to a neighbor in need. Laclede Gas will match each monthly donation, up to $55,000.

“Share the Warmth” and Win!

Laclede Gas is hosting a “Share the Warmth” photo contest on their Facebook page. Customers will have a chance to win the ultimate winter warm-up – a trip for four to Cardinals Spring Training in Jupiter, Fl., and a meeting with Matt Holliday!

CardsVacationFBImage (1)

All you have to do is submit a photo demonstrating how they “share the warmth.” Customers who share a photo by Feb. 25th will also be eligible to win one of nine runner-up prizes including regular season tickets to a St. Louis Cardinals home game.

Here’s a picture below of how my three kids “share the warmth” by playing together! I love seeing them have fun together.

Disney Junior Live: Pirates and Princesses Recap

We recently had the chance to see the Disney Junior Live: Pirates and Princesses show when it came to St. Louis! We decided to just bring Hayden and leave the girls at home and we had such a blast!

We got there a little late because we stopped to get some food and Hayden had to look at all of the AWESOME souvenirs that they are selling. He just had to grab a Mickey Mouse Cup that also had a rainbow snow cone in it. At $12, it was actually a great deal because we brought it home and it’s now his ice cream cup.

We missed Doc McStuffins – 10 minutes before each show Doc McStuffins comes out and you can help Doc take care of one of her beloved toys with her own special brand of love and magic!

The show was so fun. The first half was about Sophie the 1st and there was a SPECIAL guest who I won’t spoil for you!

After a short intermission, it was time for some Jake and the Never Land Pirates fun! This was a lot of fun and very interactive. As a pirate loving fan, my son loved this the most!

Disney Junior Live On Tour! is still touring throughout the country! Make sure to check out the tour schedule to see if it’s coming to your city!

St. Louis Photography Class for Parents {Giveaway!} #STL

Two of my resolutions for 2014 includes pictures. First, I want to learn more about taking pictures. Here I have 3 adorable children and a nice DSLR camera, but I just don’t know what I am doing and I’m not always happy with the pictures I’ve taken. The second resolution was to get into the picture more with my family. I have so many pictures of my husband with them but like most Moms, not many with me.

That’s why I was SO excited to learn about the Camera Love Class hosted by Kristie Cromie of L Photographie in St. Louis.

L Photographie is a local St. Louis photography company with a studio in the Central West End. Kristie started the company in 2003 and is an amazing family photographer. Below are just some of her pictures of her family.

Camera Love Class

What to expect at the class
We’ll spend the first two hours learning about the camera and settings to take full advantage of it with natural light. I’ll have a presentation, as we learn camera settings and ask questions along the way. Then, we’ll spend about 45 minutes actually shooting* (props; such as dolls and stuffed animals, not people) while I walk around and help with settings and give suggestions. The remaining time will be spent on what to do after you’ve shot; file storage, editing, printing, etc, along with some Q&A, giveaways and vendor discounts.
*Please do not bring your kids along to class. I want to make sure you have full attention on me and your camera.

What to bring/What’s provided
Don’t forget your camera! Also bring along any extra lenses you have, and your camera’s manual if you can find it.  It doesn’t matter what brand of camera you have for the class, but I am a Canon user and most familiar with those.  Although, I have used Nikon and Fuji’s.  For another model, if I can’t locate something on your camera, I will look it up and find it for you!  I will have some of my lenses here you can play with as well, (for the Canon users). I will be providing notebooks that include tips and pens for you to take notes, plus drinks & snacks to keep your brains nourished for learning – As well as some exciting giveaways!
