New Trailer for MUPPETS MOST WANTED! #MuppetsMostWanted

Muppets

2 years I had the most amazing experience of visiting Jim Henson Studios {Total Bucket List Item!} and meeting Kermit and Miss Piggy. Let me tell you, they were very nice even if Miss Piggy was a little possessive of Kermie!

Muppets

I absolutely LOVED The Muppets, so when I heard they were making a sequel, it made me want to yell Wocka Wocka!!

Like a classic Muppets movie, Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.

Muppets Most Wanted

I’m a HUGE fan of The Muppets and two years ago I received the opportunity of a lifetime when I toured Jim Henson Studios and had the chance to interview Kermit and Miss Piggy!

I absolutely loved The Muppets and that is why I’m so excited for the release of Muppets Most Wanted, in theaters on March 21st, 2014!

Disney’s “The Muppets …Again!” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London.

Disney’s “The Muppets … Again!” is directed by James Bobin and produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Bobin co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller, who is also executive producer with John Scotti. Featuring music from Academy Award®-winning songwriter Bret McKenzie, “The Muppets … Again!” hits the big screen March 21, 2014.

I had the chance to interview James Bobin, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Nicholas Stoller for the last movie and you could see the passion they had for The Muppets come through as they talked. Make sure to check out the interviews from The Muppets and more!

I am SUPER excited to hear about the cast of The Muppets! Ty Burrell, Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais plus all of the guest stars you know will pop up?! It’s sure to be hilarious!

Fun Facts about The #Muppets Movie!

Have you gone to see The Muppets movie yet? If you haven’t, stop reading this and just go see it. You can come back to the post later!

Don’t worry, Fozzie, Miss Piggy and Kermit will wait too!

Okay, so you’re back! Make sure to read all of my Muppets coverage, including interviews with the cast and crew! Also, check out my review of The Muppets movie!

Here are some of my favorite Fun Facts about The Muppets Movie!

LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN — Disney’s  “The Muppets” is the 7th feature film featuring the Muppets.

PRETTY PIG — A total of 12 different costumes were made for Miss Piggy—more costume changes than any other actor in the film.

AT THE HELM — Director James Bobin makes his film directorial debut. Bobin co-created HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords,” which he wrote, directed and executive produced.

CUE THE MUSIC — Bret McKenzie of “Flight of the Conchords” wrote and produced three original songs and served as music supervisor for the film.

  • McKenzie fills some big shoes: “The Muppet Movie” was nominated for two Oscars®: Best Music, Original Song (“Rainbow Connection”) and Best Music, Original Sound Score.

MINI ME — Muppet versions of Gary/Jason Segel and director James Bobin were created.

STRUMMING THE SAME STRINGS — Kermit uses the banjo from 1979’s “The Muppet Movie” during the “Rainbow Connection” performance in Disney’s “The Muppets.”

    • The staging of the scene features Kermit on a replica of the log where he was first found strumming his banjo in the very first Muppet movie. Miss Piggy shows up in a rowboat very much like the one the late Dom DeLuise used when he joined Kermit in their sweet duet.

SEEING GREEN – Disney’s  “The Muppets” was a green set (in more ways than one) with an environmental steward who made sure the proper recycling receptacles were utilized on set. All of paper products were made from recycled materials and were compostable. The production also provided each crew member with aluminum refillable water bottles to cut down on the use of plastic bottles and paper cups. Water was readily available on set for cast and crew to fill their personal water bottles.

HIGH FASHION — Miss Piggy had shoes made for her by Christian Louboutin and a dress by Zac Posen, which she wears in the finale scene.

Fun for the Whole Family: The Muppets Movie!

You may have heard that there is this little movie called The Muppets, which is in theaters today!

While I am too young to have grown up watching The Muppet Show, I did grow up watching Muppet Babies {who remembers that show?} and many of The Muppets movies.

My husband and I bought The Muppet Show when it came out on DVD a few years ago and loved watching it.

With so many great memories of The Muppets being around for my childhood, I wanted to make sure that Hayden was exposed to The Muppets. There hasn’t been a Muppets movie in the last 12 years. We showed him the movies and I am so excited that Disney has brought back The Muppets to the big screen so another generation can experience it.

Newcomer Muppet Walter {who will easily steal your heart} lives in Small Town, USA with his human brother Gary {Jason Segel}. Also living in Small Town, USA is Gary’s girlfriend Mary {Amy Adams}.

For Gary and Mary’s 10th anniversary, they decide to visit Los Angeles. Walter, who is The Muppets #1 fan is invited along on the trip to check out The Muppets Studios.

Unfortunately, The Muppets Studio is run down and neglected. While touring the studio, Walter overhears Tex Richman, an evil oil man plotting to buy Muppets Studio. Instead of making it a Muppet Museum, like he has told others, he plans to tear it down and drill for oil.

Walter can’t let this happen and he goes on a search with Gary and Mary to find Kermit. After telling Kermit what Tex Richman is up to, Kermit decides that the best way to save the studio is to get the gang back together for a telethon to raise $10 million dollars so they can buy the rights to the Studio back.

Just like it’s been years since The Muppets have been on screen for us, it’s been years since The Muppets have been together. Kermit, Walter, Gary and Mary go on a journey around the world to pick each Muppet up.

Once they get all of The Muppets back together again, they face another obstacle. The Muppets just aren’t popular anymore. The Muppets are good, wholesome fun {with some adult humor, of course!} and today’s society is more concerned with shows like “Punch Teacher”.  With a stroke of luck though, a TV network is able to air The Muppets telethon so they can raise their $10 million to save Muppets Studio. With some fun musical numbers and hard work, The Muppets work together to get the show ready.

While The Muppets are working hard to get ready for the show, Mary is wanting to spend time with Gary. Gary is torn between his girlfriend of 10 years and his brother Walter, who’s always been by his side. This leads to a very important question and one of my favorite musical numbers of the movie, Man or Muppet?

What happens next? Well, more musical numbers, celebrity cameos, laughs and family fun! But don’t take my word on it! Like the two grumpy old guys who can’t seem to get away from The Muppets, Statler & Waldorf say: “If you’re going to see The Muppets, you’ve got to see them in the theater! You don’t want to let them into your home!”.

The great thing about The Muppets movie is that it brings the family together. There are some scenes in the movie that showed families of all generations watching The Muppets on screen together. That was what was happening in the theater. Children are laughing at the antics of The Muppets and parents are laughing at the adult humor and pop culture references. The whole theater was laughing and grinning together.

While you are celebrating Thanksgiving, make time to go see The Muppets together in theaters!

The #Muppets: Interview with Kermit and Miss Piggy

325979_10101301525474334_2307691_76882637_709363420_o (1)

Back in September, I had the chance to head out to Los Angeles for a Disney Dreamworks Event. While there, I had the amazing opportunity to visit Jim Henson Studios for a tour and also interview the people who are behind the The Muppets, which will be released into theaters on November 23rd.

I had the opportunity of a lifetime when I got to meet Kermit and Miss Piggy. They were both wonderful to talk to and Miss Piggy was of course up to her usual diva ways!

Miss Piggy loved the opportunity to wear designer clothes and revealed how she gets free clothes.

Those are real and it’s wonderful, it’s fabulous. I love to do free clothes from, from fashion designers.

You know, it’s, it’s all about showing up and making experiences and you’re seen out with the fashion designers, you wear the clothes.

Even though it’s been 12 years since The Muppets have made a movie, they still have been busy. Their Bohemian Rhapsody video they did on You Tube went viral!

Kermit: Oh, lots of stuff.  You know, it’s been, it’s been quite a few years since we’ve [OVERLAP] done a big movie. You know, we haven’t done that in a long time but, uh, we’ve done lots of other stuff that we can talk about.  We just thought we were trying to come back to the big screen.

MISS PIGGY : Yes, we’ve done a lot for the small screen.

KERMIT : Yes, yes and even smaller.

MISS PIGGY : And even the smaller screen, on the internet.

KERMIT : Yeah, we’ve done a lot of that.

MISS PIGGY : You know the internet?

KERMIT : We did a bunch of viral videos over the last couple of years.  We did the Bohemian Rhapsody.

MISS PIGGY : We launched us into the stratosphere.

KERMIT : Yes, into the ether net.

It’s much easier for Kermit to be green these days.

KERMIT : It’s taken on all these new meanings.  When I said that originally, when I sang that song it was about being accepted in the world and these days it’s a lot more about the environment I think, you know.  People are kind of taking it to mean that.  But, uh, I think it’s just about being comfortable in your own skin.

MISS PIGGY : I love that so much.  When you sing that. It makes me a tear up a little bit because I know it must have been hard for you being accepted in the world as a frog.

Kermit’s favorite part of the movie making experience is lunch and Miss Piggy loves her trailer!

KERMIT : I like lunch.  No, the pace is good for a frog. I’m a pretty laidback guy so you have plenty of time to sit around and learn your lines. You don’t gotta hurry up and wait. I don’t really have a trailer to myself.  We’re already calling security I think.  I just have a small, like a child’s that I stay in, you know. I don’t take up a lot of space.  Saves on hotel costs, you know.

MISS PIGGY : I usually make him come to my trailer.

MISS PIGGY : I think it’s, uh, a lot of the same.  The trailer, my trailer.

Kermit and Miss Piggy would love for there to be another Muppet Show on TV!

KERMIT : Well, sure, sure.

MISS PIGGY : I would love that.  We should do that, Kermit.

KERMIT : I think it would be fun. I think we should, uh, I think we should look into that.  I think it depends on what you all write about the movie.  If you help us fill the theatre seats there’s a hope for that, you know. I think that would be fun. You know, maybe, maybe a few more films.  I think if we do it, we should do it pretty much like the other one, don’t you?  Red theatre.  It’s good to take a poll here.

Kermit and Miss Piggy has some words of wisdom for children of today.

KERMIT : Well, that’s a big responsibility.

KERMIT : I think, uh, I think it’s important to let kids be kids. That’s important and, uh, and, uh, and try to do that when we get to be our age too, you know. Kids don’t understand that.

MISS PIGGY : Kids need to play. They need to go outside and play and run and jump and skip and have fun.

KERMIT : You know a lot about this.

MISS PIGGY : Oh, well.

KERMIT : Really?  Okay, well I’ll take that under advice. I love kids and they’ve been such a huge part of my life and my success all the way from the Sesame Street days, you know.  And, uh, again I love the idea of kids being kids, you know, and adults being kids too sometimes, you know.  Take care of them, nurture them.

The Muppets is in theaters today! Will you be going to see it?

Disney/DreamWorks is providing me with an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for an advance screening of Real Steel and select footage from The Muppets. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The #Muppets: Interview with Director James Bobin

Back in September, I had the chance to head out to Los Angeles for a Disney Dreamworks Event. While there, I had the amazing opportunity to visit Jim Henson Studios for a tour and also interview the people who are behind the The Muppets, which will be released into theaters on November 23rd.

Make sure to read my other interviews!

Producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman

Jason Segel and Nick Stoller

The Superstitious Cast and Crew of The Muppets

We had the chance to interview the Director of The Muppets, James Bobin.

James created, wrote and produced the critically acclaimed Flight of the Conchords and Da Ali G Show.

From the moment that James Bobin started talking, I was hooked. It may have been his British accent, his infectious enthusiasm or his tweed coat, but this was such a fun interview!

James says there was no difference between directing Muppets and humans!

None.  I say none because you are directing them to act in a certain way and humans deal with their emotional things with their face and how puppeteers is with their hands.  But the direction you give is the same.  It’s how they interpret those notes in terms of their physicality that makes the difference.  You’re doing the same job.  And also you know, Muppets, the performers themselves are the same guys and the voices doing the mouth, so it’s like working with anyone.  So no difference.

James grew up watching The Muppet Show on TV and actually thought it was an English show!

Well, in England we think it’s an English show because in England you watch hours as a kid and you watch the shows on TV on Sunday afternoons and, you know, it was a show which was shot in England, it was made in England for five years, everyone who made it lived in England.

It was written by Americans and performed by Americans, but the director and the technical staff were all English.  And the actual Muppet Theater itself is an old musical theater, which is, like, a London thing rather than a New York thing.  So it felt very English in a weird way.  But also I think the tone of it, the sense of the, sense of humor is really quite English.  And I think that’s partly because, I don’t know this for sure but I, myself as a writer, I’m very — when you write you’re obviously, you’re influenced by your environment.  There’s no doubt about that.  And these guys worked in England for six years.

So I think at that time after work go home and watch TV and there’d be like MONTY PYTHON or whatever on TV and so you watch that and go, oh that’s funny.  So the Muppet show itself has got a very strange Anglo-American hybrid sense of humor which I think is brilliant.  And makes it feel very unique and why it stood out back in the day was for that reason.  So I was really, you know, for me I was very keen to bring that back, the English part of it , I guess.

James has a 4 year old daughter and a 2 year old son and explains how they love The Muppets!

Well, here there are very good experiments because my daughter’s four and my son’s two.  So they are the perfect target age. My daughter came on set and, you know, she met Kermit and Kermit is, Steve’s operating kind of like this and Steve’s talking here and she looks at Kermit and she never once looked at Steve, ever.  Ever, ever, ever.  And just, she just thinks Kermit is this frog that walks around and lives in Steve’s arms.  It’s amazing!  And it’s so lovely to see that.  It’s a great testament to the character of Steve’s work that she just buys it.  And, and for me, the movie is about that.

The idea that this world exists where puppets and humans co-exit very happily and it’s, you know, we, and I love that about it.  And, and, and one of the great joys of this job for me is doing a show that I can show them and have them appreciate for the first time and also it’s such a testament to Frank and Jim’s work on the characters because my daughter watched the show for the first time three years ago and immediately she, after the show finished, said, “I want to watch the one with the pig again.  The pig’s my favorite character.”  And so she was just drawn to Miss Piggy in a way that, you know, girls are.

And that’s really clever. You can do a character like that which girls identify with and love straight away.  And she loves Piggy.  It’s her absolute favorite thing. So, you know, and I hope that continues.

James talked about the many celebrity cameos in The Muppets and if they had to convince any celebrities to be in the movie.

I have this thing, actually, about the cameos whereby I’m glad they’re in it but I don’t like talking about them because, for me as a viewer, I’d rather watch it and go, “Oh look, there’s that!”  It makes it more fun, you know.  And if you know they’re gonna be in it looking for them before hand, it’s not as much fun.  So I like the idea that people don’t know how we do it and how it happens.  It’s fun, you know.

We have a lot, I mean, you know, twenty or so, I think.  A lot of people. And it’s really fun watching them just be in the movie.  And some people play themselves and some of them play characters.

And it’s very much like the old movies where you have some guys, you know, Bob Hope as an ice cream man but, you know what I mean, some people will just play themselves, like, you know, Orson Welles, kind of playing himself.  So we did both things and for me, I really like the idea people come to watch the movie and see them for the first time and enjoy it like that.  It’s kind of fun.

There wasn’t a thing where I wanted to have people on just for the sake of it.  But luckily for us pretty much everyone we asked said yes.  So that was a bonus.  I mean, you know, we obviously, we benefited a great deal from the fact that people love the Muppets.  People love, really love them in a way I’ve, you know, I always have.  And I just obviously assume people think like me. So everyone does.  I don’t know.  Um, it seemed, it turned out people love the Muppets and that was great because pretty much everyone we asked said yes.  And so the cameos went really well ’cause I feel like they’re part of the movie, which is the most important thing.  They feel, you know, part of it.

James talks about which Muppet he and his children would be.

Well, I have to be Kermit don’t I because I’m the one in charge.  I have to like keep all the plates spinning all the time, you know, while chaos ensues all around me.  And I’m the one who kind of helps everyone get through the morale boosting.

My kids?  My daughter loves Piggy.  My son, I don’t know.  He’s very young.  He likes everything.  Anything colored he likes, bright and shiny.

The #Muppets: Interview with Jason Segel and Nick Stoller

Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller 2

Back in September, I had the chance to head out to Los Angeles for a Disney Dreamworks Event. While there, I had the amazing opportunity to visit Jim Henson Studios for a tour and also interview the people who are behind the The Muppets, which will be released into theaters on November 23rd.

In the next 3 days, I’ll be bring you exclusive interviews and more about The Muppets!

We had the amazing opportunity to interview Jason Segel {who I LOVE!} and co-writer Nicholas Stoller. These two have collaborated many times, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Gulliver’s Travels and the upcoming Five Year Engagement.

While our group interviewed the two of them, I’m not sure if we ever stopped laughing. These two are truly a hilarious team!

I wanted to share some fun facts and quotes from the interview!

Jason Segel’s favorite Muppets movie is Muppets Take Manhattan.

My favorite Muppet movie I think is actually Muppets take Manhattan.  Which I just love.  My favorite song oddly enough it’s not a very popular one but it was a Peter Sellers episode of the Muppet show and Peter Sellers somehow gets away with singing a song called Whiskey, Wine, and Wild Women.  And I just remember at that point realizing what the Muppets did that was so special is the whole family could sit and enjoy that.

Kids are just watching a goofy guy sing a song with a bunch of puppets and it’s fun.  And adults are experiencing it on a whole different level and I think there’s something neat about the whole family walking away having enjoyed something together, having a shared experience.

Nicholas Stoller’s favorite movie is The Great Muppet Caper.

I love the great Muppet Caper.  It was just like, it was the video we had.  The video you have, just watch it over.  And I love Happiness Hotel.  For some reason that song, I just love that song.

Jason Segel has a list of 3 dreams.  As of this past weekend, 2 are done!

I have a list of dreams that I wanted to publish.  One was being on David Letterman, which I did a few years ago.  One is hosting SNL which I still haven’t done but I think that I will soon. {Note: Jason hosted SNL on November 23rd!} And then one was make a Muppets movie.  And then be on the cover of Men’s Health.  Start the campaign for that.

Ladies, can we make that happen?

Jason Segel has been a puppet lover for a long time. In fact, if you have seen the hilarious Forgetting Srah Marshall, you’ll remember there were puppets in the movie!

Nicholas Stoller told us a fun story of Jason Segel’s puppet love.

We had a meeting on Sarah Marshall.  We had a meeting with various puppet companies to decide who we were going to — of course we ended up going with Henson company but we had our meeting with the Henson company and they passed out puppets to everyone in the meeting.  It’s a business meeting.  They’re just doing as like a little goof, right.  So Jason’s in the meeting.  I’m in the meeting.  The producers are in the meeting.  And they had out puppets.  Everyone’s like ha, puts them down.  The entire meeting Jason has his hand in the puppet going like this like this with the puppet.  Like the puppet is part of the meeting. I’m like, cut that out, you’re embarrassing me.  We’re trying to have a meeting about the puppets and he’s like– like pretending.

Since Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller are so passionate about The Muppets, we asked if they had a mentor that they looked to for the movie.

Well I think, I think what we look towards was the legacy that they had created with those first three Muppet movies and the TV show.  That was really our model and we didn’t have to stray very far from that tone or try to update it or anything like that.  The Muppets, their style of humor is pretty timeless and you know, comedy really moves in cycles.  And I think we somehow, you know CGI is amazing but I feel a little bit like its Hollywood playing with their new toy, you know.

To get back to something pure like you know, puppetry and the Muppets style of just kind humor I was excited about that.

I’m sure we can all imagine how amazing it must be to work with The Muppets and Jason and Nick told us their experiences!

I was saying before I got to do a lot of sitting which was nice. Yeah, yeah, because I am a good like 2 feet taller than most of the Muppets.

The hardest thing was not being like awestruck while filming.  So the way we handled that is we made it so that our characters were awestruck.

Yeah, this is, this is my job in the movie.  I go like this a lot.

{Pretty close to the face he showed us!}

Something that I love about The Muppets is that is a family friendly movie. Kids loves it and then there is a adult humor in it for us.  Jason and Nick shared how Toy Story 3 was an inspiration.

Jason says:

I was really inspired by Toy Story 3 as well in that movie hit on every level. Kids are watching a movie about losing their toys.  And parents are watching a movie about losing their children.

Nick added:

Afterwards my wife was like do you, do you cry so much because you miss your toys.  And I was like cause my daughter’s gonna leave me.

When asked about the first time they met Kermit and Miss Piggy, Jason told us how he actually cried.

My first encounter was at a table read in New York where they surprised us and brought the puppets out for the table read.  And when Kermit first spoke line that we had written I literally cried at the table read and they had to stop the table read for a second while I pulled it together.

It was because I’m a grown man.  I should be able to handle this.  This is also my profession.  But no, I cried like a little baby just for a second.  But it happened.

Can you guess who their favorite Muppets are?

Nick revealed:

I mean you always have to think Kermit first because that’s you know, he’s the best.  But, but then Beeker is my favorite.

Jason added:

Yeah, Beeker’s awesome.

Talking about how amazing the puppeteers are and if they improvised while filming The Muppets, Jason says:

We did you know, and I didn’t expect that given that you know, I didn’t realize how talented these puppeteers are.  And I was saying, I said it a few times.  I’m sorry if I’m repeating myself but their job is to be invisible basically, is to disappear.  And it’s such a shame because they’re comedians and actors and hilarious improvers and they’re hiding under this table most of the time.  You’ll never see their faces.  That was what I walked away from most impressed by is how crazy talented guys are.

Jason Segel ended the interview with a great quote that is so true.

The Muppets are always a force for good.  Their humor is never mean and I think that’s a really great lesson to impart to children, personally.

Why is the Cast and Crew of The Muppets So Superstitious? #Muppets

Back in September, I had the chance to head out to Los Angeles for a Disney Dreamworks Event. While there, I had the amazing opportunity to visit Jim Henson Studios for a tour and also interview the people who are behind the The Muppets, which will be released into theaters on November 23rd.

In the next 6 days, I’ll be bring you exclusive interviews and more about The Muppets!

We had the chance to interview co-writers Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel {who also stars in The Muppets!}, Director James Bobin, Producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman and of course, Kermit and Miss Piggy!

One of the big questions we had for all of them was after The Muppets movie, were there any plans for a second movie and would we be seeing The Muppets on the small screen again?

While it was a unanimous yes, the cast and crew were quite superstitious in saying any more.

We asked producers Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman if they would like to see the show back and if there were any plans.

It would be awesome.

Well, I mean we’ve talked about wouldn’t it be great of…but you know. I think it depends on–it’s all up to the movie. I’m so superstitious that I can’t think about anything beyond this particular movie. But yeah,it would be fun if we get the show up again.

Writer  and Star Jason Segel says:

Well I’m superstitious and so we’re trying not to think of it until this comes out.  But we’re starting to think of ideas.  I think my main goal is just to try to get the Muppets back to where they belong and you know the forefront of comedy.  And to have, to have our generation get to experience what they had when they were young.  And share that with like their kids.  I just think it would be great.

Kermit wasn’t quite so superstitious, but had to say:

I think it would be fun. It’s good to take a poll here, you know.

So what do you think? We haven’t seen the movie yet, but do you think you’d like to see MORE of The Muppets, whether it be on the small screen or the big screen?
