She won the Toddler Talk Photo Contest!
We LOVED looking through all your beautiful submissions.  Everyone has such adorable kiddos!

This week’s topic is : Ask you Questions

We thought this week we would have you all post any questions about your Toddler you would like advice on.  Maybe you are having sleep issues, meal time drama, or just want some new suggestions on meal ideas, music, or things other Toddlers enjoy.  No question is off limits, but please as we go around be respectful of other people and different parenting styles.

Emily’s Questions are:
1. What is your favorite on the go meal for your Toddler?
Um, Pizza. Seriously, if Hayden is refusing to eat anything I know I can make a pizza and this kid will devour it. And he will eat any kind of pizza!
Frozen pizza, delivery, English muffin pizza, pizza bread…..
You name it, he will eat it! It’s a good way to hide some veggies on it though! ;-)
2. We are having some issues walking in public.  Squish wants to walk on his own, I would prefer to hold his hand.  But when I do, he drops his body weight and gets upset.  He is wanting to be independent.  I have never been a big fan of leashes personally, but I don’t know how to keep him from running away in a crowd and not throwing a fit.  Any suggestions?
I actually need this advice myself! Some friends have told me they have taught their children to walk and hold on to the stroller, but I can only laugh! Hayden will not do that. He loves to RUN! He will hold our hands but when he wants to go, he will just drop to the ground and be dead weight until he can take off running. I don’t want to use a leash either but it’s hard not to want to when you are in big crowds!
Thanks in advance for all your wonderful ideas!

This week’s topic is  : What’s in your bag?

When I first found out I was pregnant I immediately lusted after the Fleurville Mothership Bag. I was so excited when I got it at my Baby Shower and it lasted me a good 2 years!

Now I just throw everything I need into my purse. When we go on trips to the Zoo or to pick apples, we bring our backpack so I can fit a little more into it.

Sometimes I will thrown in a change of clothing, because trust me, I have learned that mistake!

I am looking to get a bigger purse, even though this one fits everything shown and more!

So, what’s in your bag?

This week’s topic is  : Clothes

How much fun is it dressing your child? When I first found out that I was having a boy I immediately went to the store and started buying clothing! It is so much fun and the fun hasn’t stopped!

When he was little I loved dressing him up in jammies and rompers. I just thought they were the cutest!

Now he pretty much dresses like Daddy! ;-) Polos and shorts or jeans.

When he is lounging around the house he is usually in athletic pants and a t-shirt.

We do have some character shirts which are mostly Mickey Mouse or Toy Story.

I get the majority of his clothing from Old Navy or Target. I have started giving him options in the store and he is actually picking out what he likes!

Every morning I also let him choose between 2 shirts and pick out his jammies at night. I started doing that because he would throw tantrums when he was wearing a shirt he didn’t like!

What clothes do you love to put on your toddler?

Our highlighted blogs this week are:
The Balancing Act in Stiletto’s and Scrubs
This week’s topic is  : Games

I love playing games with Hayden. I think my favorite game is the “Clean Up Game”, LOL!
After he makes a mess either in his room or the living room we sing the “Clean Up” song and then hurry to get all the toys put away. He loves it and so do I!

He has really been into Chasing and Hide n’ Seek lately (as well as you can play Hide n’ Seek with a toddler!) and we have a lot of fun with that as well!

We also do alphabet and animal flashcards, which is one of his favorite “games”. He is always bringing the cards to me, getting comfy on the couch and then he will tell me his letters and animals.

I’ve already started buying Christmas presents and I bought him the game Elefun, which is 3 and up. I think he will enjoy that. I know Candyland and a lot of those other games are 3 and up but I don’t see him ready for those yet. Maybe he will be in 4 months when he turns 3!

And of course he loves games on the iPad. He has over 20 games just for him and many of them are matching and memory games. He does really well with them and they are very interactive and fun.

What games do you like to play with your toddler?

This week’s topic is Halloween!
I have always loved Halloween, but I love it more now that we have Hayden!
We always make sure that we go to a pumpkin patch and spend the whole day there.
We ride the wagon out to the fields and pick our own pumpkins.

Here we are “pumpkin picking” in 2008, when Hayden was 8 months old.

And his Halloween costume!

Pumpkin picking in 2009, when he was 1.5!

Halloween costume, 2009!

We actually have already gone to the pumpkin patch for this year! Hayden had a lot of fun picking out his pumpkin!

We don’t have his costume yet, but I just ordered it yesterday!

Surprise, surprise, but he is going to be Woody!

This year we are going to go to “Boo at the Zoo” at the St. Louis Zoo!

It’s the day before Halloween and the children get to dress in their costumes and there is all sorts of fun activities and of course candy!

What is your favorite things about Halloween? Are there any traditions that you do?

Welcome to the ninth week of Toddler Talk Thursday! Where Family and Life in Las Vegas, Crazy about my Baybah, and My Life as a Sippy Cup Mom talk all things Toddler! Thank you for your patience with last weeks “break”. As all of you know, sometimes life gets a little busy.

Our highlighted blogs this week are:
Love that Brock begs to paint everyday!
Love the idea to try and use yogurt as finger paints.
Love the Ivory Soap Painting
This week’s topic is Discipline.
We started time out with Hayden a little after he was 2 years old. Most of the time it was for things that were a danger to him or something he would repeatably do, like knock all the DVDs off the shelves, even after we told him no.
We used to put him in the crib, for 2 minutes (his age) but we stopped doing that after I read that you shouldn’t do time outs in bed because then they might associate something bad with his bed.
I bought a stool and put it in the corner of our empty dining room. He hit us for the first time about 3 months ago and after telling him no and explaining why he shouldn’t have done it, I put him in Time Out in the corner.
He LOVED it! He actually sat in the stool until we could tell him he could leave. He giggled and smiled the whole time.
I hate telling him no, because I feel when you say it over and over again, it just loses its meaning. I’ve started saying things like “Hot” and “Yucky”, but mainly I use distraction for him.
I will never forget the time I was outside with some family and Hayden started running across the yard and for the street. I knew yelling no wouldn’t do anything so I started yelling “Danger! Stop!”. My family laughed at me for yelling “Danger!” but you know what? It worked!
So I think I’ll continue to make sure to tell Hayden what he did was wrong and try the Time Out in the corner, but I think distraction works really well at his age.
Next weeks topic will be: Halloween – Post anything related to Toddlers and Halloween. Also we would love to hear from you what topics you would like featured on Toddler Talk.

This Week’s Topic Is ART!!!
I think that if Hayden could paint every day that he would.
He had so much fun the last time we painted and that he has been asking to paint every day since then.
I got him an easel a couple months ago and let him draw on it with chalk or we usually put some paper on there and let him go at it with crayons.
Most of the time though he likes to go crazy with his AquaDoodle Mat. He got it for Christmas and he LOVES it!
He always is dragging it out and drawing on it.
I need to start doing more crafts with Hayden, I think he is finally at an age where he would really get into it.
We had a lot of fun making these last Christmas and I hope to do it again this year!
Next weeks topic will be: Toddler Discipline (as Parents we are always looking for ideas that will help make everyone’s life easier. Please share what you do in the hope that it will help others!)

Toddler Talk Thursday: Music!

Welcome to the fifth week of Toddler Talk Thursday, where Family and Life in Las Vegas, Crazy about my Baybah, and My Life as a Sippy Cup Mom Talk all things Toddler!

My highlight from last week is The Adventures of Ryan! I love the picture of Ryan sitting on his Sit n Spin watching his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

This week’s topic is : Music
Hayden LOVES music and he is always singing. He catches on to song so quickly it seems and he will just walk around the house singing “Twinkle Twinkle”, “ABC’s” and “Row Row Row Your Boat”.
He also loves to DANCE to music.
He is a big fan of Laurie Berkner’s music. We first discovered her music while watching Jack’s Big Music Show.
I have episodes saved on our DVR so we can out on her videos and the theme song of Jack’s Big Music show so he can get down and boogie.
We listen to some old nursery rhyme songs in the car. I never realized some of the lyrics to them until Hayden was in the car trying to sing along “cut off their tails with a carver’s knife….” from Three Blind Mice. Oh my.
We cleared out our dining room so it’s completely empty and Hayden has taken it over as his own personal dance floor. He loves to dance to the Phineas and Ferb theme song over and over again (Luckily, I downloaded all the Phineas and Ferb songs to my iPhone!) and he grabs my hand and has me dance with him!

I will try and get some video of him dancing up! Everything I have isn’t the best quality!

What is your Toddler’s favorite music?

This week’s topic is Toddler’s Favorite TV and Movies!

Hayden has a definate routine! After breakfast he asks to watch “Phinnie” which is Phineas and Ferb. He loves that show and I have to admit, I think it’s pretty good too!

We usually watch 2 episodes of Phineas and Ferb to start our day.

Hayden used to be a big fan of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and The Wonder Pets but he’s just not into them anymore! Makes me sad!

As far as movies go, can you guess?

Toy Story 1 and 2!

I have had to hide the DVDs of these movies because Hayden will sleep with them. He has.

He always wants to watch these movies. He will watch the trailer for Toy Story 3 on my phone ALL.THE.TIME.

We pretty much have every Disney movie on DVD so we have tried watching them all. He usually gets bored with them, but he likes The Princess and the Frog a lot.

What is your Toddler’s favorite TV show or movie?

Thank you so much Emily and Lauren inviting me to be a host of Toddler Talk Thursday! I love meeting other moms of toddlers because, well, we all know they are a special sort!

This week’s topic is FAVORITE TOY!

Pretty much anything that is TOY STORY is going to be Hayden’s favorite toy right now. He just can’t get enough of anything Toy Story. We walked into a Toys R Us and he literally SQUEALED at the giant Toy Story displays!

His Buzz and Woody dolls have been his favorite of lately, they come everywhere with us and I do mean everywhere. I accidentally  put him down for a nap this afternoon without them and had to hear ‘Buzz! Woody! Where are you? Buzz!”.

His other favorite toy is the iPad! He calls it “Mine” because that is what Heath says when Hayden tries to take it from him! I do love the iPad because there are so many different games for him to play! He has learned so much from the activities!

He also loves playing with his Mickey Mouse, which is a lot like Tickle Me Elmo! It moves, dances and sings!

Put him outside and he loves his Cozy Coupe! Beep Beep! Watch out!

What is your toddler’s favorite toy?

Toddler Talk Thursday: Food!

Emily over at Family and Life in Las Vegas and Lolo at Crazy About My Baybah have teamed up for a fun new blog hop!

Toddler Talk Thursday is a place for moms and dads of toddlers to talk about a weekly topic that relates to toddlers. It’s also a great time to meet other bloggers who have toddlers!

This week’s topic is: Toddler’s Favorite Food(s)

Hayden is not really one to branch out with new foods. He is pretty much set on the foods that he knows and love. If I try to introduce a new food it either goes to the dog or we get a temper tantrum. I’m happy to say that he is starting to branch out, as he ate some Italian sausage at a recent BBQ and also some salad.

His favorite foods are definitely FRUIT. This kid can not get enough of it. He is constantly running around asking for “BBs”, which is either blueberries or strawberries depending on his mood. He also is a big fan of apples, peaches, oranges, watermelon….
He also LOVES pizza! (What kid doesn’t though?) If we order a pizza, as soon as he sees that pizza box he does a happy dance!

Other favorite foods include pasta, waffle, cheese and veggie quesadillas, and mac and cheese. We only use Whole Wheat breads, pastas, etc. so when he wants mac and cheese over and over again I try to make it as healthy as possible.
Oh, did I mention fruit? Seriously he is obsessed!

What are some of your toddler’s favorite foods?

Toddler Talk Thursday!

This week’s topic is Toddler Fun Outside the Home: Fun and Educational Activities.

Our family loves doing activities outside the home and luckily there is just so much to do in St. Louis!

Almost every day that Heath is off and weekends we have something planned whether it is The Magic House, a HUGE Children’s Museum or The St. Louis Zoo, which we love and actually went to on Monday!
There are so many parks throughout St. Louis that we like to visit also.
Hayden loves going to Kirkwood Park, which is definitely his favorite! They also have a Splash Pad, which is a lot of fun!
Another favorite park of his is Suson Park, which has a ton of animals to look at, which Hayden loves to see and talk to!
We also love going to the pool! We joined a pool this summer and Hayden also loves going with his Grandma to her pool! He loves to “kick” and “jump”!
What activities outside the home do you and your toddler enjoy doing most?
