June is Internet Safety Month – How Verizon Wireless Helps

This month is Internet Safety Month and as a mother, this is definitely an important issue for me. Hayden may only be 4 years old but he is already a master at the iPad and my iPhone. I’ve had to take extra precautions to protect him from any inappropriate content he may come across while playing with a device hoping to play with the latest Mickey Mouse Clubhouse app.

With summer here, kids of all ages are using wireless devices to access content and connect with family and friends. According to recent studies, 52 percent of all children eight and younger have access to mobile devices at home and nearly 80 percent of children younger than five use the internet on at least a weekly basis.

Luckily, Verizon Wireless is taking measures to ensure that its customers of all ages are safe and that parents have a piece of mind.  These Parental Control tools, also known as Verizon Safeguards, provide the comfort, control and ability to create the digital experience that is right for any family.

Family Locator gives parents the ability to:

· Check on the location of a family member’s phone from their PC, phone or tablet.

· Receive arrival and departure updates for each family member

· Create scheduled location updates for each family member

· The service is available for $9.99 a month for up to 10 lines on an account.  Customers and employees can enjoy the first month   of Family Locator FREE through 8/15!

Usage Controls allows parents to monitor their children’s device usage by:

·  Controlling monthly usage of voice minutes, messaging, data and content purchases like ringtones, games and downloads with Usage Allowances.

· Setting times of day when family members cannot call, message, or access data with Time Restrictions. Note: this feature always allows communication with Trusted Contacts.

· Blocking unwanted phone numbers, email addresses and screen names from being sent or received withBlocked Contacts.

· Usage Controls are just $4.99 per month per line.

Content Filters provide parents with the flexibility to control what kind of content their children can access through their Verizon Wireless device by choosing one of the below age-based filter settings for each line on their account. The setting can be adjusted easily at any time through My Verizon.

  • C 7+: Content recommended for children aged 7 and older
  • T 13+: Content recommended for teens aged 13 and older
  • YA 17+: Content recommended for young adults aged 17 and older
  • No Filter: Content recommended for adults aged 18 and over
  •  This is a free service.

I absolutely love that Verizon Wireless offers all of these options for their devices. More and more children are hooked on technology and this is a great way to make sure they are only viewing the educational stuff. And I know that when Hayden is older I totally am going to be enabling the Family Locator!

Do you use any of the above features on your phone? What do you do to keep your children safe on the internet?

#MidwestMoms Verizon Program Comes to an End!

The past 6 months since I joined the Verizon Wireless Midwest Moms Program has just flown by. I am a huge fan of technology and testing out new technology so when I was invited to try out the latest gadgets from Verizon Wireless, I was geeking out. I was not a carrier with Verizon Wireless, so I also couldn’t wait to test them out – their service, customer service and products!

Thanks to Verizon, I was able to attend the Midwest Moms Conference in Chicago and bring my family with me! It was their first time in Chicago and we absolutely loved it!

Chicago, Illinois

I was able to meet some amazing people. Not only the other bloggers from the Verizon Midwest Moms Program {who I love and admire!} but also the team from Verizon Wireless and Rauxa.

Just some of the amazing Verizon Wireless Midwest Moms!

I was able to have a delicious dinner filled with fun conversation on the top floor of the John Hancock Building in Chicago!

View from the Signature Room in the John Hanock Building

Then, I was able to have fun learning more about some great products from Verizon Wireless! I’ve spent the last six months playing with my Motorola Xoom – it’s my handy travel companion and grocery store shopping sidekick. Not only does it play flash – something the iPad doesn’t do- it takes pictures, records video and has the whole Android Marketplace at your fingertips!  Another huge plus for me with the Motorola Xoom is how if you’re a Google addict like me, it easily integrates Gmail, Google Talk and more! Another big deal? You’re able to tether up to four devices to the Xoom so they can access the Verizon network too for internet. This was huge for me while traveling!

The Droid Bionic has been another sidekick of mine! With the Droid Bionic, I was able to experience 4G speed for the first time! Holy cow, is it FAST! I was also able to experience Verizon Wireless service. No dropped calls or missing signals at all!

I never had any problems with my devices, but my husband and I stopped into some Verizon Wireless stores a few times where we were treated with great customer service. Just like Verizon Wireless is so helpful on Twitter, they were so helpful in store!

And of course, one of my favorite things was learning how Verizon Wireless does good and provides the HopeLine – America’s largest phone recycling program that gives phones to people affected by domestic abuse.

Make sure to check out my links above to read more about Verizon Wireless, the Droid Bionic and the Motorola Xoom.

Thank you to Verizon Wireless and Rauxa for such an amazing experience!

Questions? Let me know!

Verizon Wireless Holiday Gift Guide #MidwestMoms

It’s the Holiday Season, which means it’s the time of giving! One of the best gifts is the gift of communication! If you’re looking for the latest tech gadget to give someone, look into getting one of the hot items from Verizon Wireless.

The past six months I have been able to get my hands on and test the hottest items from Verizon Wireless including the Motorola Droid Bionic and the Motorola Xoom. Both feature Verizon’s lightning fast 4G LTE speed!

With Verizon’s 4G LTE speed, you can access things in seconds. 4G is a technology that will give you speeds up to 10x faster than 3G. I can download a song within 4 seconds. I can catch up on an episode of my favorite TV show with no lag time or buffering.

If you’re interested in purchasing a tablet, check out the Motorola Xoom! It runs on the Android operating system and if you’re a Google addict like me, you’ll love it. The Xoom easily lets you access your Gmail and Google Talk. I love being able to chat with my friends through the Google Talk app or stay in touch with my family while I am on the go with its front-facing webcam! It also features a 5 MP camera, so you can take pictures and video on this big screen. Easily my favorite feature of the Xoom is that you can access websites with flash, unlike the Apple iPad. I’m able to go on websites and watch my favorite TV shows right from the Xoom!

If you’re looking to purchase one of the hottest phones available, look into the Motorola Droid Bionic! This cutting edge phone is just full of amazing features. One of my favorite features is the huge screen. I love that it’s not too bulky for a phone, but still has a big and bright screen. Like the Motorola Xoom, I can access websites that feature flash. So watching TV shows and movies on my Bionic is easy to do also.

The Droid Bionic features an 8 MP camera, which is amazing for a phone. I love the Gallery feature, which pulls all of my photos and all of my friends photos from Facebook, Flickr, Picasa and more! It’s also easy to video chat with the Bionic. Like the Xoom, use the Google Talk app for a “face to face” conversation with a friend! The Bionic features 1080p HD video so you’ll be able to view everything in such clarity!

Again, if you’re Google obsessed like me, you will love that the phone is integrated with Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps, You Tube and more. Sign in to your account and you’ll be able to access everything easily!

It’s hard to choose exactly which one was my favorite device! I have to admit I loved the lighting fast speed of the Droid Bionic and having that with me wherever I went! I get to choose one of the advices to keep and it’s going to be the Droid Bionic.

That’s great news for you, because that means I’m giving away the Motorola Xoom right here on the blog! Stayed tuned for that upcoming giveaway!

Do you like to give tech items as gifts?

Get into the Holiday Spirit with Verizon Wireless’s Hopeline #MidwestMoms

If you’re like me, you may have a couple of old phones laying around in your junk drawer. Most times I will try and trade in my old phones, but sometimes I will forget that I have them. If you have came across any old phones, put them to good use!

Verizon Wireless’s Hopeline is America’s largest cell phone recycling program. The program helps out by giving those affected by domestic abuse a phone to make them feel safer and the chance to reach out for help if needed.

HopeLine® phones are provided to participating domestic violence agencies and organizations nationwide for use by victims and survivors as they rebuild their lives. 1,101,756 wireless devices were collected in 2010.

What is a HopeLine Phone?
HopeLine phones have 3,000 anytime minutes of airtime with calling features, including Nationwide coverage, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, 3-Way Calling, Caller ID, and Basic Voice Mail, all on the nation’s largest and most reliable wireless network. The coverage map for HopeLine service can be found here.

Who is eligible for a HopeLine phone?
Domestic violence survivors must be affiliated with a domestic violence agency participating in HopeLine from Verizon to receive services and equipment. To inquire on how to obtain a HopeLine phone, please visit here for a partial list of participating domestic violence agencies and organizations in your area.

There are several ways that you can help.

You can go into any local Verizon Wireless store to donate an old phone in person.

HopeLine Donation Box inside Verizon Wireless

You can also host a HopeLine phone drive to benefit victims of domestic violence and help the environment at the same time. It’s easy to get started and any individual or corporation can set up a HopeLine donation box.

If you’re not able to donate your phone in person, you can print a shipping label and mail in your phone for free.

I’m such a huge fan of the HopeLine program and Verizon Wireless’s efforts to stay green.

Verizon Wireless also helps protect the environment by collecting spent rechargeable batteries for recycling. The Verizon Wireless Cell Phone Battery Recycling program is an easy way for customers to join with Verizon Wireless to help conserve the earth’s natural resources and prevent spent batteries from entering community landfills.

Through HopeLine from Verizon’s recycling efforts, more than 200 tons of electronics waste and batteries have been kept out of landfills. Since October of 2001 when Verizon Wireless launched its national recycling program:

  • Collected more than 8 million phones through our stores and other points nationwide.
  • Properly disposed of more than 1.7 million phones in an environmentally sound way, and refurbished the remaining units, funding more than $10 million in cash grants for domestic violence organizations across the country.
  • Distributed more than 106,000 HopeLine phones with the equivalent of more than 319 million minutes of wireless service for use by victims, survivors and organizations.

Please share about this program! You never know who you will be able to help!
