For all that everyone seems to promote the beauty of natural looks, coloring your hair is still popular. You can see this in a single glance at celebrity looks in Vogue or any other fashion magazine. It seems that people won’t be banning hair dyes anytime soon, so instead you need to learn how to care for your colored locks. These treatments are notoriously damaging, so your tresses will require extra care.
Applying revitalizing, nourishing, and moisturizing hair masks at least once a week is an essential part of a haircare routine for treated locks. Here is where you can use the power of nature, as natural remedies for colored can be more effective, 100% organic, and definitely are much cheaper.
4 Best Natural Remedies for Colored Hair of Any Type
-
Black Tea Treatment
The antioxidant power of black tea is proven by studies. However, few people realize that this product is also one of the most effective restorative treatments for colored hair. Another one of its benefits is that making a black tea remedy is extremely simple.
You only need to steep a bag of tea in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Then, pour the liquid onto your locks and massage it in with your fingers. Leave for 30 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water.
The only drawback of this remedy is that it can’t be used for bleached locks as tea will make them darker, and the change in color can be uneven.
-
Avocado and Olive Oil Mask
If you have bleached blonde locks, this natural haircare mask will be your best choice as it’s extra-moisturizing. Therefore, it’s a perfect remedy for bleaching treatments that make your locks extremely dry.
Mash one ripe and peeled avocado using a fork and combine the mass with 1-2 spoonfuls of olive oil. You can use a blender to make your mask perfectly smooth and easier to apply. Distribute the mixture over your locks with your hands, cover the head with a shower cap, and leave for about 230 minutes. Then, wash off gently using a proper shampoo. In case you have a silver or platinum shade of blonde, this would be the perfect time to use No Yellow shampoo that will enhance the color.
-
Banana and Coconut Oil Mask
Coconut oil is an even better moisturizer than olive oil. It also has some potent healing properties, so adding it to any natural remedies for colored hair will enhance their power. Combining it with bananas will be perfect for extremely damaged hair that was originally dry. Bananas also are a powerful moisturizer, but they can enhance the natural oiliness of scalp slightly.
To make an effective hair mask, you only need to pulse one ripe and peeled banana in a blender with 2 tablespoons of melted coconut oil. You can use coconut milk in case oil is unavailable. Massage the mask into your locks and scalp gently but thoroughly and wrap the head in plastic. In about 30 minutes, rinse off the mask with cool water and use a very mild shampoo to wash off the remnants of it.
-
Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
Apple cider vinegar has potent healing properties and serves as a great moisturizer. It’s a bit ‘too potent’ for natural remedies for colored hair that need to be applied for long periods of time. However, it’s perfect for a quick softening rinse if you dilute it in water.
Use about one cup of apple cider vinegar per three cups of cold water. Note that you’ll need to rinse off this rinse after about 5 minutes. However, use lukewarm water to do this. Monitor the reaction of your locks and adjust the proportions accordingly. This might not be the best treatment for bleached locks as it can affect the color.
