We all know how daunting the task of garage organization is…especially with kids. Usually, the little ones aren’t as enthused about cleaning as you are and their lack of attention ends up adding more hours to the job.
-
Naptime: If you have really small children, try to get the bulk of the work done while they’re snoozing away. Invest in that valuable naptime!
-
Include Them: If your kids are old enough to carry things, let them in on the fun!
-
Have Them Decide: Have your kids choose where their things go. That way they’ll remember where it goes when it’s time to put it away.
-
Label Maker: Make labels for everything. Colors, shapes, or pictures are a good idea for little ones that can’t read yet.
-
Shelves: Find sturdy shelving and racks to get your storage off of the floor. You don’t want your kids tripping over clutter.
-
Rewards: Try to incorporate a reward for your kids after they’ve done a good job. Don’t forget to reward yourself too!
-
Breaks: Don’t forget to take breaks. Whether it’s going out to lunch or playing catch in the yard, it’s important to rejuvenate your kids and yourself.
-
Take it Easy: Don’t overwhelm yourself! If your kids aren’t cooperating with you, don’t be afraid to come back and tackle your garage at a different time. I promise it’ll still be there when you get back.
-
Game Time: You can integrate games into the chore. You can do a race against the clock or the cleanest area wins.
-
Charity: Most likely, there are things in your garage that you haven’t used for years and would be in better use in someone else’s hands. Explain to your kids the importance of giving and how they can be charitable too.
When using these tips, it’s really not too hard of a task. With a little motivation, you can get it done on a Saturday with an evening to spare. Plus, the feeling after getting it done can be motivation alone.

I need some inspiration to organise my garage as it is full of stuff and I am not able to understand what to do. All your tips I found very helpful and most that I liked are the #4 & #10 steps. There are some things, which are no longer in use, so I think to donate them. Thanks for this inspiration.
