You did it! Okay, sure, they are the ones graduating but you’re the one that got them there. That means that this is a time to celebrate and there are several essentials you should consider including this year.
You likely took the time to plan your child’s education and maybe you even took the extra step of getting a group or private tutor for them to help ensure they maintained their grades. So why wouldn’t you plan out their graduation celebration?
With that in mind, here are 5 essentials you should definitely consider utilizing for this year’s graduate.
1. An Unexpected Treat
You may have some big things planned for your graduate but if you really want to blow them away, you should definitely consider including a few “little” things as well. Special treats like mylar balloons are always a hit but get them some individually wrapped cookies or a cookie cake and watch their face light up.
You can also trick out their ride with a car decorating kit or opt for the old-fashioned and readily adorable shoe polish on the windows. Get creative with a few little things and you can let your grad know how proud you really are.
2. Decorate the House
Thanks to the pandemic, many of the graduates of 2020 got ripped off when it came to actual ceremonies but that doesn’t mean they didn’t celebrate. A new trend that is becoming popular is decorating the yard and home with custom signs calling out their fantastic accomplishment.
You decorate for Christmas and perhaps even Halloween, why not go all out for your graduate this year? Throw some spotlights on the sign and consider putting up some colorful lights and other decorations. Putting some flair on your home will not only let the neighbors know how proud you are, but it’ll also remind your graduate every time they go in and out of the house.
3. An Essential Essential
You’ve simply got to have a party! Fire up the grill, get plenty of chips, dips, sodas, a party pack of meats and cheese, hire a DJ near you, and have your graduate invite all of their friends.
However, don’t just throw a lame traditional party. Get creative!
Create some homemade leis but instead of the traditional flowers, make them some candy leis with cellophane, candy, tissue paper, ribbon, and real carnations.
Additionally, don’t just throw up various colored streamers. Set the tone from the moment they walk in with bunting made in their school colors.
Keep them safe on this auspicious occasion and throw a party they’ll never forget.
4. Take Them On a Trip
With most of the country opening back up and airlines running special airfare promotions, now is the time to take a trip. Even if you have little ones, you can travel and save money these days and a trip to Disneyland, Universal Studios, or even the beach, which are all great ways to show your graduate just how big of a deal this is.
5. Something They Always Need
There’s one thing that your graduate has asked you for a million times and will likely ask for a million more — money. A cash gift can give them an opportunity to start their “adult” life on the right foot as they can use it towards their education or maybe a new vehicle, or just something fun like a trip mentioned above.
No matter how you celebrate your grad this year they are certain to appreciate the thought and effort, especially if you implement some of the tips we shared today. Graduation only comes once, make it memorable.
