No one likes dealing with carpet stains, but they always seem to appear no matter what. Whether it be a spilled glass of wine, muddy shoes, or the unfortunate work of your pet, carpet stains are truly inevitable. Another potential danger to your carpet is a mess from your toddler. Your toddler may appear cute, sweet, and perfect on the outside, but these youngsters are capable of causing major carpet destruction.
Do you want to learn how to protect your carpet from your toddler? Sears Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning has come up with some simple and useful tips for you to follow.
Invest In A “Splat Mat”
Does your toddler eat in a carpeted area? This can cause some big problems to the cleanliness of your carpet. A simple solution is investing in a “splat mat” to place under your child’s highchair and around where the worst damage takes place. There are many great options for “splat mats” on Etsy. Not loving the mats on Etsy? Another great option is to use the clear, plastic mat that often gets placed under office chairs. These mats can be easily washed and will help keep your carpet looking clean.
Purchase An Inexpensive Area Rug
Another easy solution is to purchase an inexpensive, dark colored area rug to place in your child’s eating area. This area rug will protect your nice carpet underneath, and can easily be thrown into the washing machine when dirty. Your toddler’s spills won’t get anywhere near your carpet when you use an area rug! Area rugs can tie the look of a room together as well.
Use An Old Shower Curtain
There are so many great options to protect your carpet from messy baby food. Some parents do not love the look of carpet on carpet and therefore would rather steer away from the area rug solution. Instead of an area rug, place an old or inexpensive shower curtain in your toddler’s eating area. This option may not be the most attractive, but it is the cheapest and perfect for easy cleanup.
Make Eating Fun & Clean with A Foam Puzzle Play Mat
Your toddler will love this option! A foam puzzle play mat that can be taken apart and put back together is the most fun option for your toddler. The puzzle play mat can be placed over the carpet where your toddler eats and is both easy to clean and enjoyable for your little one to play with even when not eating.
Feed Your Toddler In The Kitchen
Generally speaking, kitchens are not carpeted. Instead of feeding your toddler in the carpeted dining room or living room, it is worthwhile to consider having your toddler eat in the kitchen. Keep their highchair in the kitchen or purchase an inexpensive “kids table” for your child to sit at. Your toddler will feel special by having his or her own little table and you will be much happier when you aren’t slaving away at cleaning your carpet.
We hope that one of these five options will help keep your carpet clean from any and all messy spills from your toddler. Are you experiencing other major carpet cleaning problems? Give us a call and we would be more than happy to take care of professionally cleaning your carpet.

We had a plastic mat that we put under my grandson’s high chair. That really helped save our floor!

These are all good ways to protect the carpet. My favorite is to use an old shower curtain. This does not cost a lot and can be wiped clean when done using.

Good tips! Getting a cheap area rug works great. After a while you can just toss it and get another if you need to.
