Being a mom can be tough work. It’s a 24/7 responsibility, and one that often goes unnoticed. Chances are, you’re a mom and you know that you can get so busy that you neglect to do things for yourself. But when you want to look and feel your best even if you have toddlers or teenagers, you don’t need to spend hours doing it. Here are some quick beauty tips for the average mom:
Get Up Early
Sleep can be hard to come by, so it’s important not to cut too much into your sleep schedule for your beauty routine. However, giving yourself just 5 extra minutes can make a big difference. Have a plan for how to best use those minutes to pamper yourself to look and feel your best.
Avoid Caffeine
Caffeine is a diuretic, which means that it causes you to lose water and electrolytes. When your body loses too much of these vital substances, dehydration can set in. This leads to more fine lines and wrinkles, which aren’t something that most moms want to encourage. It can also cause dryness which can feel uncomfortable. Avoiding caffeine can help improve your skin tone over time.
Consider a Good Skin Regimen
Use a good moisturizer especially if you want to get good at reducing dark spots. It takes just a few seconds to rub moisturizer into your face before bed and when you wake up in the morning. If you want to get fancy, you could invest in a moisturizer formulated for the daytime and one that’s best for nighttime while you are sleeping. You need to gently cleanse the dirt from your face daily and be very careful around your eyes.
Embrace Your Own Natural Beauty
If you have curly hair, learn how to take care of it the best. If you have straight hair, get a cut that helps it to look its best. Embracing your own natural beauty involves learning to love the things about yourself that you can’t change. This may even mean learning to be okay with your extra mom pooch that you don’t have the energy to take care of yet because that pooch once held your children in it.
Skip the Makeup Routine
When you were younger did you spend 45 minutes putting on makeup? Now is not the time for that, but it doesn’t mean you need to ditch makeup altogether. Learn a quick 5-minute routine that might include something as simple as face lotion, one color of eyeshadow, and some mascara. A short routine is easy to follow and can give you a boost when you are too busy for anything else. Mom life often involves putting the kids’ needs above your own habits, but you don’t need to ditch them altogether.
Use Moisturizer, But Don’t Overdo It
If you’re not already using moisturizer, now is the time to start. Moisturizer is an extremely important part of any beauty and skincare routine and should be applied after cleansing and toning. However, it’s also easy to overdo it, so stick to once or twice a day on a clean face so that you don’t inadvertently trap dirt in your pores.
Take Vitamins
Collagen supplements, vitamin C, and even vitamin D are great for your skin and health. By taking additional supplements as part of your beauty routine, you will nourish your body from the inside out. Vitamins can help you look more rested, help you feel better, and may even make you look a little younger than you are. You don’t even need to cake on makeup or use an Instagram filter.
Take Care of Your Physical Body
Eat healthy, hydrate, and sleep well to promote good skin health. Healthy eating should be a part of your routine already, but in case you didn’t know, it can also be a part of your beauty regimen. Grab an apple when you’re on the go, enjoy some veggies with dip, or munch on leftover chicken. Fruits and veggies have antioxidants that can minimize skin damage.
Drink plenty of water every day to keep your skin hydrated and soft. This is especially helpful during the winter or if you live in a dry climate. You’ll also want to get enough sleep at night. Lack of sleep has been linked to many health issues including weight gain/loss, depression or anxiety disorders, and increased risk for diabetes & heart disease. Sleep is of course also good for reducing dark circles and bags under your eyes. Taking care of your physical body through sleep, proper eating, and drinking enough water can impact your beauty routine in powerful ways.
