I’m getting ready to start Potty Training with Hayden and I want to be armed with as much information as possible.
This weekend we hosted a Pull-ups Potty Party to get him excited about it. I’ll be posting about the party tomorrow!
Last month I went on Twitter and each day asked a different Potty Training Question. I got tons of great answers and wanted to share some with you!
Day One: What’s your best Potty Training Tip?
@MamaofAllTrades says: My best tip: Wait until they show signs of being ready. It’s not a contest with other moms and kids. Start too early & it’ll take twice as long and cause mega frustration on both mama and kiddo!
@theleakysippy says: Spend at least 1 day pushing fluids so you spend lots of time practicing using the potty!
@Akauz says: Potty training tip: take them to store & let them pick out their own super cool big boy/girl underwear.
Day Two: What type of incentives do you use?
@lovelimes says: We used stickers and mini M&Ms as potty training rewards!
@terry_tkw says: When my kids were potty training I played the Once Upon a Potty video w/ lots of praise for success!
@momwithaminivan says: We put one new toy on top of the fridge and when 5 consecutive dry days went by, it was a party! Worked for us!
Day Three: Big Toilet or Potty Chair?
@westoftheloop says: I say potty chair to start. Little feet on the ground makes them feel more secure.
@ourkidsmom says: We started with the potty chair, but have decided with the right seat topper, the toilet works best. Less fear while out too.
@blueviolet says: And the answer is first potty chair, then potty chair on big potty, then big potty. Confusing enough for ya?
**I was surprised! I thought that the potty chair would be the popular answer, but big toilet was actually the winner! I think we will have to try that with Hayden!
Day Four: Who is easier to train? Boys or Girls?
@iheartmarcusb says: Girls are so much easier to potty train than boys! (mom of three girls and 1 boy)
@ourarmswideopen says: Boys! My son potty trained in 2 days at age 24 mos! He was night trained within one week! Luck? Maybe. 🙂
@nerdmom says: Girls, girls, and yet again girls 😉
**I thought it would be Girls for sure but was shocked to see a lot of people saying Boys!
Day Five: What is your child’s favorite character underwear?
@jennyfeldon says: Elmo! And it’s surprisingly difficult to find…
@xxkimhcxx says: It wasn’t so much the character with my daughter but the color…they had to be pink or purple!
@Uhleeya says: Toy Story!
Day Six: What age did you start Potty Training?
@handsonaswegrow says: We started #pottytraining around 2 years… he showed interest just before he turned 2… its been a year now… still going!
@JesseMcGranahan says: 2.5 for my daughter but 3.5 for my son! Know your kid.
@alas3lads says: With all four of my kids, I waited until they were age 3 to start.
**Lots of answers and it seems sometime between 2 and 3 is the magic age!
Day Seven: Tell me a funny potty training story!
@hayandtaysmom says: My funny #pottytraining story is that I have to do a peepee on the potty dance each time my daughter goes on the big potty!
@livingthescream says: I told my daughter it was time to potty train her. She asked me when she was actually going to get to ride the Potty Train! LOL!
@olpupsranch says: I have a video (happy 2 share) of my over enthusiastic son who would fall asleep in his potty chair waiting 4 the big moment!
Thank you @olpupsranch for sharing that video! Too cute!!!
Day Eight: How do you deal with potty training while traveling and doing errands?
@jacksonsmom2007 says: You have to know where the potty room is!!!!! And make sure you have extra clothes with you!!’ 🙂
@deals4sara says: We make sure to have reward treats and the potty cover and haven’t gone anywhere without a bathroom -plus wearing a Pull-up out!
@notaperfectmama says: Boys can pee wherever! But with my daughter I had to carry a potty seat everywhere!
These are just a few great answers to these questions! Thank you to everyone who answered them!
Congratulations to @jennyfeldon who won the $100 Amex Gift Card for answering!
Check back tomorrow to read about my Potty Party!
Figures mine is the one that’s confusing! LOL
Haha, I had to put it in there! 😉
Please tell me how to get a kid to fall asleep that easily. Alex does not like the sleep.
Great tips – I stumbled this to keep in mind.
I love you you put all of tips together–so helpful. I’m going into training mode for my 3rd time, but could still use the help! Such a cute site! Happy to be a new follower. Janae
Woohoo! We are going to a Pull-Ups party tomorrow – should be fun. Potty training is in my opinion the most diabolical thing a parent of young children ever has to do. I would gladly pay someone to do it for me – it is that miserable of a job! 🙂 Well, actually my daughter was pretty easy – no special tips from that one, it just happened pretty easily. Now I have an almost 4-year-old boy and a 2 1/2 year-old boy that we are trying to train at the same time. “Trying” is the key word. My older boy is autistic, so of course that plays a role in the “why the heck is this taking so dang long!” potty training.
Thanks for all the tips in your post – there is sure to be one we haven’t tried yet!
Moms of boys who train them in the SUMMER say they are because they can let boys pee outside. 🙂
Have you asked other moms if they train their boys to sit down to pee at first, or stand at the toilet?
Haha I love the video of the little boy falling asleep on his potty!!
These are some awesome tips. Unfortunately, I do not have any for you. I hated potty training with a passion and I don;t know who’s worse to potty train – girls or boys. I have both and they were all bad…all three. lol
