Beaducation Stamping on Metal Starter Kit Review & Giveaway

Just look at these beautiful pieces of hand stamped stamped jewelry:

Can you believe I made the two on the right? And that you can too?!

 

Beaducation sent me the Stamping on Metal Starter Kit. This comes with everything that you need to create these pieces except a steel bench block and 16 ounce mallet or hammer. The instructions were just perfect. Eight full color pages starting with an explanation of the contents, great suggestions about your workspace and using proper tools, and then comprehensive directions which I found clear, precise and very easy to read and understand.

 

They even included a “trouble shooting” section in case you are not getting the results that you would like. My experience with this was fantastic! I read through the instructions and off I went hammer in hand! On my first blank (stamping lingo for little silver disk) I realized I found myself laughing out loud each time I picked up the stamp to reveal the newly imprinted letter! This was too fun! There is a learning curve involved on the placing of the letters as you can tell from my very first creation, but the end result was still very whimsically cute:

I then realized I had forgotten to make use of the 3” by 3” copper practice sheet. But stamping with no purpose in mind didn’t suit me, so I decided to make a plate with the lyrics to the hubby’s and my song (You Always Make Me Smile -Kyle Andrews). Depending on the quality of the end result, I could put it in a shadowbox frame with a picture of us. I have to say that I am so pleased with the outcome!

And now I was on a roll! An adorable set of charms which I plan to add a heart or maybe a little star to.

Out of eight pieces of metal that they sent me, only one did not turn out as I would have liked. It ended up being a clustered mini-mess of letters! Still, one out of eight is not bad for a beginner! I would have had a much worse percentage without all of those very helpful tips: such as use painters tape to not only secure your blank but as a guide for the letters and use the marker to make an identifying mark as the center of your space.

I can’t believe these lovely items came from my hand in just a matter of minutes and a couple of swipes of the hammer-which is really quite fun when you get the hang of it!

Here are a few pictures of the steps involved:

Beaducation also offers over 100 online classes including metalwork, wirework, chainmail, mixed media, PMC and seed beading. They show you with step by step instructions and you are able to see the entire process up close so you don’t miss a thing. If you’re not sure that an online class is right for you they offer many free classes. In fact, Lisa Niven Kelly, the founder of Beaducation Inc, offers a free Metal Stamping online class. She is personable, and easy to listen to. She shows you in a way that makes each step easy and she also explains other methods, including the “tilt and tap” method which takes additional taps but allows for a more consistent image, which I preferred. If you need inspiration, the website also has an amazing Design Ideas page. Click on the picture of a design that you would like to create and it shows you not only a tools and materials list but various related online video classes to show you how it’s done! If you need to know how to use a certain tool, there is also a Product Demo page, so you no longer have to wonder just how to properly handle your Tronex cutters, Liver of Sulfer or Metal Dappling Block!

Just think of all of the sentimental handmade gifts that you can make for your friends and family! A personalized pendant with children’s names and birthstones for Mother’s Day. A little necklace stamped with a nickname or funny sentiment for the person that has everything. Or a bookmark with Dad’s name on it. I have already started my list of gifts that I would like to hand stamp!

    What a great idea for a giveaway! Can you tell I’m an eager beaver. 🙂 Been jewelry making for awhile now. Took lampworking class last weekend and have been trying to save the money to branch out into stamping, so I can add some variety to my creations. I’d love to create some of the “bestest daddy” style necklaces and some bracelets with family photos in bezels. So many great ideas and methods to learn about. And for the record – your pic of your son? at the top of the blog is adorable. 🙂 Blog header is great too!

    This is very exciting. I recently purchased a necklace from someone who makes the stamped metal jewelry. I saw it and being the hobby crafter that I am thought I can do this. So this past week, I started googling hand stamped jewelry and one of the links I got the most information and products was beaducation. So I now have my long wish list, of the beginning products and fun extras! I bought Lisa Naven Kelly’s book, and have been checking out the videos on the website. So what would I like to make…everything I’ve seen 🙂 I love necklaces, so will be trying to make a few necklaces. I love the leather cuff in Lisa’s book also!! So it would be exciting to win so I can begin starting and get officially hooked 🙂

    Wow..which projects would I like to try. I think the better question is which one projects don’t I want to try. I’ve been a huge fan of Beaducation for a while. I think most of their projects are adorable and I’d love to try my hand at them. I like “The Classic,” as well as the “Stamped Swivel Pendant.” Both projects are simple yet beautiful.

    OMG!!! I am so in love with this idea. I never even thought of doing this. I love beading jewelry but stamping looks like so much fun!
