Summer is here and in between all of the fun things we are doing, I also want to make sure Hayden is brushing up on all of the things he learned in preschool so he doesn’t forget it in the fall when he starts Kindergarten.
There’s a thing called Summer Brain Drain that occurs when students are away from the structured learning environment of a classroom and lose the months of knowledge they gained during the school year because they are not regularly exercising their brains. According to research from the Center for Summer Learning at Johns Hopkins University, students typically lose one to two months of reading and math skills during the summer break.
Yikes! Luckily, there is a lot that parents can do to help beat Summer Brain Drain including having your children play and learn with the VTech InnoTab 2S Tablet!
I was excited when we were sent the , which is a Wi-Fi Learning Tablet perfect for ages 3-9. My son is a huge fan of our iPad and everything that it offers but I’m always a little afraid of letting him play with it since it’s easily breakable in his kids hands. As soon as we pulled the InnoTab 2S out of the box, I could tell how durable it was. It’s made with a hard plastic shell with rubber corners so when dropped (and it’s already been dropped a few times) it won’t break.
Favorite Features of the InnoTab 2S
– The InnoTab 2S features wi-fi so you can easily download games to the tablet. There’s no actual web browser, so your child won’t be able to browse but it will enable you to download additional apps without having to connect the tablet to your computer.
– The camera and camcorder is a big hit with Hayden! He loves using my phone to take pictures and now he can do it right from his very own tablet. The camera has a lot of features too including a 180° rotating design, face detection, real time camera special effects, and a choice of 3 photo resolutions. You can even edit the photos! He’s been taking lots of pictures of his new twin sisters!
– The Learning Lodge features more than 350 educational games, e-books, music and videos developed specifically for each child’s unique stage of development, as well as with their age and interests. I love that there is a wide variety of subjects that are covered, plus parents can track their child’s progress through the Learning Lodge™ Progress Log.
– There are so many additional apps to download in addition to software cartridges that feature your child’s favorite characters! Hayden is a huge fan of the Madagascar 3 cartridge. There’s also popular characters like Mike the Knight™, Angelina Ballerina®, Team Umizoomi™, Dora the Explorer™, Thomas & Friends®, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles®, Jake & the Neverland Pirates, Sesame Street and more!
– There’s a stand on the back of the InnoTab 2S which allows the tablet to stand on its own. I love this feature and wish my own phone and tablet would do this!

Hayden really loves the calendar app too. In preschool, they would always go over the calendar in the morning and now it’s something we do at home too. You can even put stickers on certain days so your children know there’s a special activity going on that day!
The Art Studio app is great for your child to get creative. Hayden’s been having fun drawing on the tablet – and so have I!
The tablet does take batteries, so if you’re planning a long road trip and vacation you might want to stock up. Hayden’s been playing with the InnoTab 2S almost every day though and we haven’t had to change the batteries yet. It’s also compatible with the VTech AC adaptor and Car adaptor.
The VTech InnoTab2 has been such a great learning tool for Hayden. He’s been learning to read with the e-books that we have downloaded and he’s been a lot more interested in learning – he just thinks he is playing!

This is silly, and there are LOTS of other features I like too – but I really like that it looks a little like an iPad. My kids are constantly stealing ours, so having it look somewhat similar might help them stick to their own devices and finally let my husband and I have a turn with ours!!

My favorite feature about the Vtech innotab Tablet is the Art Studio app, as this would be for my grandson and he is so intrigued with drawing & painting right now.
Another item I would like to have is the Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker, which would be perfect for my 8-month old grandson, as he is currently trying to stand & walk right now and this toy would not only provide entertainment but also help him with his balance.
