So, you’re planning a visit to the beautiful island of Corfu. Congratulations, because for 365 days, it’s a serene paradise suited for both nature lovers and seekers of luxurious pleasures. One decision that each traveller needs to make is the schedule and time for visiting. In this guide, we’ll focus on the best time to visit Corfu. This is going to be a seasonal breakdown.
Spring (March to May)
This is the easy choice for visiting. The weather in the Ionian Sea region will be warm and nice, but the tourist crowds will not be at their peak.
Since Corfu is unofficially labelled as the Greenest Greek Island, spring is a great time to see its lushness, parks, flowers, and more.
Air temperatures range between 15°C and 23°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and sightseeing. Water tends to heat up by very late March and April. In April and May, it should be above 20-22 °C, so swimming and snorkelling become so much more fun.
April and May are also very popular due to the Greek Orthodox Easter celebrations.
Summer (June to August)
The summer months are the peak tourist season. This is also a nice time for snorkelling, but it is also the top choice for beachgoers and boat renters.
The weather in this Ionian island is hot. The Mediterranean sun makes most days around 30°C and above, so it’s harder to be active, but it can be perfect for a more relaxed time.
That said, we can’t stress enough that summer is also the busiest and most expensive time of the year. Hotels and flights are priced higher, and Corfu Town as well as popular tourist areas, can get crowded. To make the most of your trip, book your accommodation early in advance and expect to bump into other people.
Fall (September to October)
Fall may be the best option for those looking for a balance between great weather and manageable tourist numbers.
From September to mid-October, the weather is still warm, reaching between 25°C and 28°C in the air and 21-23 degrees in the water. The sea is still warm enough for swimming, and the island takes on a more relaxed, peaceful vibe. It’s a great time to book beautiful accomodations like Amberton Green Villas Corfu Greece.
Enjoy beautiful sunsets and get away from the big city fuss with all the comforts one could want. Oh, and fall is also a great time for wine lovers, as Corfu’s Wine Festival takes place in September.
Winter (November to February)
Winter is the quietest and cheapest time to visit Corfu. The tradeoff is the weather. It doesn’t get freezing, but between late November and February, air temperatures can fluctuate between 10°C and 15°C, whilst the Ionian Sea becomes suitable only for those not afraid of cold water.
At the same time, winter is great for hiking and enjoying local food without the crowds. Most but not all cafes and restaurants are open year-round, and there are plenty of guided tours still going on.
