Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are on constant play in our house. Not to mention the 2 Buzz Lightyears that we have, Woody, Jessie, Toy Story Sippy Cups, Buzz Lightyear phone, coloring books, t-shirts, juice boxes and more that is all over our house. It’s pretty much like Toy Story exploded in our house!
Heath and I talked about it and we decided we wanted to try and bring Hayden to the movie theater to see Toy Story 3. He sits through the other movies really well. We decided to go to the first showing of the day, where hopefully it wouldn’t be as crowded.
Toy Story 3 was playing at 10:30, so I packed my Mary Poppins bag with snacks and sippy cups (I figure it was for a toddler, so I was okay with sneaking it in!) and his lovey, Buzz and Woody. We put on his Buzz Lightyear shirt and drove to the theater.
We used our free movie passes that came with buying the Blu-Rays (Score!) and they didn’t charge Hayden either even though only 1 and under is free. We went into the theater just as the movie was starting and it wasn’t really crowded. We sat in the middle but at the end in case we had to make a run for it (Remember CPK?). I actually got him a booster seat from the hallway and he sat in between the two of us.
The movie started and from then on Hayden was entranced. He LOVED it. He held on to Buzz and Woody occasionally making Buzz fly and yelling “Buzz! Woody! Jessie!”. He was grinning so much! He sat in his seat the whole time except for the last 20 minutes when he crawled into Heath’s lap.
As for me, I also loved the movie. I pretty much cried throughout the whole movie and sobbed at the end. I’m sure you’re thinking, “Really? It’s um an animated movie.” But I will admit it!
I just can’t believe that Andy is 17! And going to college! Now that I’m a mother I can’t help but compare situations to Hayden’s future. Lemme tell you, the last scene had me sobbing. If you have seen it, let me know what you thought!
So I’m glad to report that Hayden’s first movie was a success! I don’t know if I’ll be taking him to any future movies. I think Toy Story was just a success because he loves it so much and knew those characters so well.
Oh that Lotso Bear. So much worse than Stinky Pete!

Such a perfect post! My twins are two and are also in love with all things Toy Story! We decided to attempt to take them to their first movie this weekend and see Toy Story 3 as well. So glad to hear that your trip was a success and made for some wonderful memories.

We just got home from watching it with our oldest. She LOVED it and was so good also, (almost 3). I too sobbed like a baby and I am glad to know I'm not the only loon that sobs in animated movies! It was awesome!

Glad that worked out so nice – I am terrified to bring my son anywhere where he would have to sit still for more than 2 minutes!

Ok …so I admit it…I cried as well at the end of this movie. It's too close to home. Braden is 8 and it seems like the years have just flown by. He cried because he thinks I'm going to get rid of his toys when he goes to college, Brooke cried because of the monkey and I cried because I don't want them to grow up. We were all a teary mess when we left the theatre. I love this collection of movies! I'm so glad Hayden enjoyed his first one. He will always remember Buzz and Woody.

I saw the movie – I personally didn't have any issues being teary eyes, but the mom next to me did. It was sorta funny.
Congratulations on going to your first movie!

Yeah!! What a big day, and such fun to see him so into the characters!
My son didn't make it through his first movie theater experience, and we had to leave. It was Stuart Little, and for some reason it was too intense for him! He's 16 now, but we still have to bring it up once in a while…

You are one brave lady to bring little one to the theater. Potato is still not really into tv or cartoon shows for that matter. I am glad it went well and I believe I will wait until it comes out on video. I don't think I could explain the sobs to my husband lol.

I have four kids and only the oldest (age 8) is a seasoned movie-goer. My middle two (age 6 & autistic and age 3) just went to their first movie last week – to see Toy Story 3!! Such a great "first movie" to see! My 6yo was fantastic, but my 3yo was restless and overwhelmed.
The movie was wonderful! I was a totally sobbing mess at the end too. It was so touching and bittersweet. Movie magic, for sure. 🙂
