A few years ago, I received my first DSLR camera and I was SO excited. I was finally going to be able to take amazing pictures of my kids – both at home and while we were out. I was going to bring it with me everywhere! I know some parents are able to do that, but I quickly turned to my phone more and more and left the DSLR at home because it was so heavy and bulky. I rarely would take it out but I missed the quality photos.
Then, I had the chance to test out the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR for the last month and my love was renewed. First of all, this camera is the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR which you can immediately tell upon picking it up. It fit perfectly in my hands and over the last month, I was so comfortable putting it in my diaper bag and bringing it with me on the go.
It may be a small camera, but it’s big on features! It features 18 Megapixels and a speedy Canon DIGIC 5 Image Processor. As a parent with three kids that are always on the go, I loved that it can shoot up to 4.0 frames per second (fps) for up to approximately 7 consecutive RAW files or approximately 28 full-resolution JPEGs. It helped me to ensure that I would get at least ONE photo of the kids while they were playing.
My fellow bloggers will love the Kids and Food Modes. Kids mode ensures high-speed shutter priority, focus tracking, healthy skin tones and flash when needed; Food mode delivers bright, vivid food images, limits flash by default and limits the red tint often associated with “restaurant plate” photography.
It’s also easy to shoot video with the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR. It provides easy manual control of exposure, focus and Live View features and even has in-camera editing. It’s great to be able to switch in between taking pictures and videos of my family.
There’s a ton more features to the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR, which you can read over on the Canon website. For now, check out some of my favorite photos from the past month!
I’m loving the quality of pictures from the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR and I especially love the size!

The draw for point and shoot cameras is that they are so tiny. But I just can’t bring myself to give up my DSLR because I want (need) the quality. It’s great that Canon is marrying the two! I can’t wait to try this camera.

Oh wow, that is teeny! I actually packed my d700 away because it’s so big and started using a mirrorless, but this looks teeny enough to carry around just fine.

I’ve heard so many great things about Canon. I am a current Nikon user, but I think the love of photography trumps what brand you use

You got some great shots! Obviously what it lacks in size, it doesn’t lose in picture quality. And it seems like it would be much easier to take with you on the go.

What a great camera! I too find myself leaving my DSLR at home and just using the camera on my phone. I really need something a little smaller for those everyday moments.

What beautiful photos! That camera certainly peaked my interest. I love my T3 but there are times when I really would prefer a smaller option… when we go skiing or rock climbing for example.
