Being a working parent – or, really, any parent at all – is a full-time, stressful job. An entire being is relying on you for their health, their happiness, and their development. When it comes to parenting, it can be easy to let our priorities focus solely on our children. The problem with that, however, is that life is more than just parenting. We have friends, family members, and, of course, our partner. Having a date-night means that you and your partner can get a few hours where you see each other as husband and wife, instead of as co-parents. To help you out, here are five great date-night ideas:
- Have Dinner at a New Restaurant
Experiencing new things together is a fun and easy way to make date-night special. Go to either a restaurant that has just opened, or simply one that you haven’t been to before. Remember, though, to try and not talk about your children when you’re on your date. Date night is for you two to spend time together as a couple, not as parents!
- Take a Class Together
Another great date-night idea is to take a class together. Ensure that the class is something that you are both interested in or, alternatively, take turns choosing the class so that it is fair. These classes can be on anything, from cooking to pottery to even parkour if you are interested in that. The new experience will give you something new to talk about, it will be fun, and as you’ll be doing it together, it will be intimate.
- Go to an Event
There are so many fun and great things happening all year round. Visit www.ticketsales.com and pick out events that interest the two of you, and you’ll have a guaranteed great date-night out. Events are a wonderful option because they’re something new, they’re fun, and you can plan them far in advance.
- Have a Sleepover Date
Instead of going out for your date night, instead have family members take care of your children for the night. Sleepover dates are perfect to keep the romance alive. Have a romantic, intimate evening for just the two of you, or perhaps just have a fun night where you two binge-watch your favorite television show and eat from a large bowl of ice cream. Whatever you do, make sure you spend time together having fun.
- Go on a Trip
Trips are a great way to spend time together as a couple. Weekends away are easy, relatively inexpensive, and aren’t hard on your children. Go to a nearby town, go to a faraway city, or whatever else strikes your fancy.
Treat date-night like your first date, rather than a chore. Get dressed up, head out, and enjoy the special relationship between you and your partner. This is crucial for the health of your relationship, and it’s a great way to take a break from the stresses of being a parent. Have fun, and get out there! Your children will be okay without you for a few hours, and you’ll have a great time.

Great Tips! In December my job is having a Holiday Gala at a brand new Hilton…Downtown in our city. They also have discounted rates so we are doing a “weekend away” but we will be right in our city! But kid-free I am looking forward to it!
