There are certain people on my Christmas list that are so hard to buy for every year. One thing they all seem to love is a good bottle of wine! And who doesn’t love a really fabulous surprise? With the California Wine Club, you are sent a different selection of different wine every month directly to your door. They have quite a selection of varieties, something for every taste and budget!
Bruce and Pam Boring started the California Wine Club over two decades ago, with the idea of “one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend”. They travel California’s wine country together, searching for great bottles to share with their wine club members.
The California Wine Club offers four wine of the month clubs to choose from: The Premier Club, which is their most popular; The Signature Series, for the wine connoisseur; International Selections from the small “mom and pop” wineries around the world and the Aged Cabernet Series which offers Napa’s most prestigious Cabernets aged 8-12 years.
My husband and I were so very excited to be offered two months of the California Wine Club! Our first month we were sent two delicious bottles from the Robledo Family Winery. The first was a 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, a white from Lake County and 2009 Tempranillo, a red from Napa Valley. They came very safely packaged directly to our front door. My husband and I were both very happy with both selections!
The Savuignon Blanc is described: Aromas of honeysuckle and mango waft from your glass of this yummy Sauvignon Blanc. On the palate, green tea, citrus and lemongrass make this white a rich and complex. It was crisp and refreshing without being too sweet. We enjoyed it with a nice halibut dinner and asparagus.
The Tempranillo is described: This wine has a bright ruby color with heavy aromas of cranberry, blackberry, cinnamon, spice and toasted oak. The flavors of dried black fruit, toasted cedar and tobacco mingle with great acidity and strong tannins to produce a long, rich finish. I do adore red wines that have a rich flavor and a clean after taste! The Temranillo was just as described and was a lovely accompaniment to our steak dinner.
Look for our next California Wine post where they will be giving one very lucky Sippy Cup Mom reader a fabulous $50 gift certificate!
