Since starting my low carb journey over 6 months ago, it’s no surprise that I have been eating a lot of meat. During the summer, we loved to grill but it’s been a little harder with the cold weather. In all of my low carb groups, I’ve been reading that you MUST own a cast iron skillet to grill steaks, veggies and more on. I always hesitated on buying one – they were more expensive, I was worried about the care of one and would I really use it that often? But when I recently went to Kohl’s to stock up my kitchen with tools to help my weight loss journey, I came across a pre-seasoned cast-iron skillet from Bobby Flay. I knew it would be the perfect addition to my kitchen and couldn’t wait to make some cast-iron skillet steak!
The first thing I wanted to make with my cast-iron grill pan was steak, of course! If you’ve been wanting to make steak inside but haven’t yet, here is the easiest recipe – and it’s FAST too!
Easy Steak with a Cast Iron Skillet
– Pre-heat your oven to 500.
– Heat up your cast-iron skillet on high heat.
– Coat your steak with oil, salt and pepper – very simple!
– When the skillet is hot and sizzling, place your steaks on top. Cook for 30 seconds on both sides, then flip and cook for another 30 seconds. {Yes, just 30 seconds!}
– Move the entire pan into your oven and cook for 3 minutes. Flip the steaks and then cook for another 3 minutes.
– Take out of the oven and remove steak from skillet. Let the steak stand before eating as steak continues to cook even while sitting there!
Following the method above will give you steak that is medium. If you’d like it medium-rare, only do 2 minutes on each side in the oven. I’ve experimented a little with different times and I’ve tried adding butter to it too before putting it in the oven. Each steak has been delicious – I’ve discovered that I love my steak medium, it comes out perfectly.
With this fabulous cast-iron skillet from Kohl’s, I’m able to make perfect steaks in less than 8 minutes – which means I usually have to have my sides ready to go! I also have been loving being able to grill veggies inside too – especially zucchini – YUM!
Bobby Flay has a huge variety of great cookwear and more at Kohl’s for your kitchen! You’ll be able to find anything you need from Kohl’s to stock your kitchen – no matter what diet you are following!
How do you cook steak inside? Do you have any tips?

I rarely cook steak inside since it is hard to get it perfect. A cast iron skillet is something I haven’t tried though, great idea.
Oh I just love cooking with cast iron. I really need to get one of those, well, actually probably two. We always have to grill 4 steaks.

I’ve never heard of this kind of cast iron skillet pan, but it looks really nice. Your steak looks REALLY good too. Now you have me wanting a big huge juicy jacket.
I love iron skillets! You don’t have to grease them up and the clean up is so much easier than a regular pan.
