First birthdays are such a BIG deal! I remember how excited I was when planning the first birthday party for my son Hayden and then for Olivia and Evie. Not only is it a celebration for your child turning ONE, but it’s also a celebration for us parents – way to go, you did it!
I remember preparing for Olivia and Evie’s first birthday party and the excitement that led up to it. I created a first birthday Pinterest board for all of my ideas until I was able to narrow down a theme. For their party, we did a cupcake theme since they are my little cupcakes and we had a lot of fun with that! If you’re planning a first birthday party soon, I’ve got some tips for you!
- Delegate picture taking to someone else. I was lucky enough to have room in my budget for a photographer who was just starting out and she came to the party to take pictures. I learned with my son’s parties that I wasn’t IN many of the pictures since I was always the one behind the camera. With someone else taking the pictures, you don’t have to stress about getting the perfect shot and you can be in it!
- Keep it small and simple. Even the most outgoing baby can get overwhelmed when 20 people start singing Happy Birthday to them. If you can, keep the guest list limited to close friends and family and make sure to schedule the party around nap time. There’s nothing like a sugar induced meltdown in front of your closest friends and family – um, not that I know!
- Make memories. Before the party, I ordered these personalized chalkboard posters and it was the hit of the party. So many people told me that they loved reading about Olivia and Evie. Make even more memories by having party goers sign the back of the poster with Happy Birthday messages!
- Shop at Babies“R”Us! That first year can fly by and I’m sure that you want to make this once in a lifetime event so memorable. That’s why Babies“R”Us is there to help you every step of the way! Babies“R”Us and Pampers are teaming up to ensure you have everything you need, from party favors and birthday clothes, to Pampers and Dreft, to make your day unforgettable.

My #1 tip for a first birthday party is to keep it simple and not plan too much. There’s so much new and unknown at a birthday party, and sometimes it’s better to just be able to play in the backyard they know, or with familiar toys to keep from getting overwhelmed.
My tip is to keep it simple, affordable and low key. Do not overspend.
It’s best to keep it simple and outdoors if possible, the kids can run around and play. Prepare as much the night before and use paper plates and plastic cups and silverware for easy clean up.
Do as many things as you can ahead of time so the days not so stressful. I make food a few days before.
Keep in mind that the party is for a one year old. They just want to have cake, ice cream and fun… keep it simple!
My #1 is to just invite family to keep it simple.
My #1 tip is to keep it simple and enjoy! Have lots of finger food that are great for all ages!
My Tip For Throwing A First Birthday Party Is To Have A Theme, It Makes It Easier For Decor And Food.
My #1 tip for throwing a 1st Birthday Party is patience (lots of it).
When planning a first birthday party, I suggest making the food the day before, so the day of the party is more relaxed. Don’t worry if something goes wrong or your little one doesn’t cooperate.
Don’t stress. You’ll remember it far more than the child will.
My tip is to keep it small and simple. It doesn’t need to be a big one, gather family and enjoy some quality time.
Keep the baby’s nap time in mind. If you push them too hard, they’re bound to have a meltdown.
My #1 tip is to take lots of pictures and only invite a small amount of people, don’t overwhelm the baby.
My #1 tip is to let everyone know ahead of time what size clothes your 1 year old wears. None of my 1 year olds actually wore 12 mo. so I always had exchanges to do.
My #1 tip for throwing a first birthday party is to take lots of pictures! You definitely want to capture this cute moment so your child can see in the future who was there for them for their 1st birthday celebration!
My #1 tip for throwing a first birthday party is to buy plenty of food! Having lots of treats for people to eat enhances the enjoyment and fun.
My tip is to not go overboard so the baby does not get overwhelmed.
Plan around nap time!

I would say have a couple smaller first birthday parties rather than one huge one. It can be so overwhelming to them…and always schedule around naptime. 🙂
