Manners Are Free is the debut book for M.B. Jones as a writer. After becoming a first time Grandmother, Jones became inspired to write this children’s book. She strongly believes that children are never too young to learn good manners, and while teaching her granddaughter about common courtesy and manners she always added her tag line “Manners Are Free” .
In her book Manners Are Free, Jones uses clear, rhythmic language to illustrate the importance of common courtesy and the basics of good manners. The story brings us though a special visit with Nana in which Nana uses every opportunity she can to teach her granddaughter a very important message, that “Manners Are Free”.
Nana reminds her granddaughter the simple things we should all remember to do on a daily basis – from saying Please and Thank you, covering our mouths when sneezing, and remembering to chew with our mouths closed!
In addition to the clear message of the story, the use of bright colors in the illustrations is a wonderful way of bringing the messages on each page to life. They depict each real-life situation Jones uses to teach children these important life lessons.
Reading the book with my children was fun! They caught on to the repeating message at the end of each page and helped recite the chorus line Manners Are Free before we turned the page!
