This post brought to you by Sippy Cup Dad!
I just completed Week 3 of Couch to 5k and it was definitely a challenge for me. Before I started this, I have NEVER ran before. Even in High School and Middle School I elected to walk the mile run, so this program has really shown me that despite how much weight I’ve lost through walking and cutting back on calories that I am no where close to being in shape. I’ve always joked that the only way I’m going to run is if someone is chasing me and even then they would have to have a weapon of some sort. Everyone, (runners) keep telling me that my stamina will increase and I’ll be surprised by how fast it will happen. Well, I’m still waiting. Maybe my issues stem from the fact that the St. Louis heat made a come back this week with heat advisories climbing to 117 degrees, I’m not sure.
This week’s program was a 5 minute warmup walk and then 2 repetitions of the Jog for 1 1/2 minutes, Brisk Walk 1 1/2 minutes, Jog for 3 minutes, Brisk Walk for 3 minutes, repeat and then a 5 minute cool down walk. Next week’s outlook is going to be difficult. We leave for Disney World on Thursday and I’ve committed to continue this program while I’m gone. I’m not sure how I will do it but I am going to try in fear that if I miss a week then I will fall behind.
Next week’s program looks like this: Brisk 5 minute warmup walk,Jog for 3 minutes, Brisk walk for 1 1/2 minutes, Jog for 5 minutes, Brisk Walk for 2 1/2 minutes, Jog for 3 minutes, Brisk walk for 1 1/2 minutes, Jog for 5 minutes and then a 5 minute cool down walk.
On a side note, I am loving the Reebok Realflex shoes. They are extremely comfortable and I feel like I’m running on air. I’m interested to see how they hold up over the 9 week program.
Hey girl – I finished up the Couch to 5k earlier this summer! And I too never ran – always wanted to try it but the thought of running 2 blocks was ridiculous, let alone 3.1 miles. My advice is this: 1. you’ll NEVER regret doing the run, you’ll always regret NOT doing it and 2. you can ALWAYS repeat a week. The point isn’t to finish in just 9 weeks, but to FINISH. You CAN do it 🙂
Good luck!
Hey Colleen! 😉
Thanks for commenting, Heath actually wrote the post!
I only WISH I was this far! I’m still stuck on week one. I feel bad, but I keep telling myself that I need to work myself up to it. I’m definitely counting on repeating some weeks.
Heath, on the other hand, is rocking it!!
You repeat week one as many times as you need to, and before you know it, week 2 will be no problem. You guys are awesome. And this weather is the perfect motivation!!
Glad to hear from you both, Sippy Cup Mom and Dad 🙂
I am not a runner either. In fact, I kind of hate it. But I will say when I did run I was in the best shape of my life. This program seems great to help me get started again. I would love to be able to run the Susan G Koman 5K in May. Keep up the great work Sippy Cup Dad!
Congrats! You go girl!
I just completed my training and it feels great. You’ll do wonderfully. And I think it’s a good idea to keep trying while on vacation.. what better place to jog around than at Disney World 🙂
I just completed my first 5k using the couch to 5k program. I am still running after and pushing myself for a 1/2 marathon! Keep it up. Check out my couch to 5K blog as well……https://nestingmadeeasy.blogspot.com
I’ve started the C5K program a few times…I’m actually doing it right now…let’s hope I finish this time! If you are determined, you will be able to do it even on your trip.
