As a full-time blogger and social media manager, I’m so grateful for technology. I can be running errands, at the park, grocery shopping and still have the option to be on my phone checking in with clients, tweeting, replying to emails, updating Facebook and more. Technology allows me to take pictures and videos of my kids and then share them instantly with friends and family online or through a text. I can listen to my favorite song wherever I am – or bring up the Frozen soundtrack for my kids – and I couldn’t get through a workout without my phone.
BUT….I don’t want my kids growing up thinking that it’s okay to always have your head into a phone or a tablet. Sometimes, you have to disconnect to reconnect with your loved ones. One very important rule that my husband and I have is there are no phones or tablets allowed during family meals. We have a ritual that as soon as we are at the kitchen table, that we go around and each one of us tells the rest of the family what we did that day, starting from when we woke up. It’s something that my son has become so excited about and he’s even started doing it away from home! At Easter, as we sat around the table with our extended family, he wanted everyone to go around and tell him about his day. I love that we are starting a new family tradition with him and that he knows that meal time = family time.
I’m excited to be sharing the message of Disconnect to Reconnect with you. It’s a movement to get families to unplug at the table for at least one meal, once a week, more often than not. Thanks to Smuckers, you can take the pledge for your family at the PowerofFamilyMeals.com. Ditch the phones and reconnect with you family during meal time. Start a new tradition like we did with telling about our day. Maybe you could each share a special memory, ask questions about their favorite books, movies and activities or make up a silly story as a family!
Something we like to do is have breakfast for dinner {as many families do!} so I thought I’d share a new recipe that I made up inspired by the delicious waffle sandwiches at Walt Disney World.
Honey Peanut Butter, Apple and Banana Waffles
Ingredients
– 4 Waffles
– Smuckers Apple Jelly
– JIF Honey Peanut Butter
– Apples
– Bananas
Directions
– It’s really your choice on how much you want to load up your waffles with! Spread Honey Peanut Butter and Apple Jelly on waffles.
– Place sliced apples and bananas on waffles and make a sandwich!
YUM! It was a big hit with all members of my family and it”s just SO easy to make!
Join me in taking the pledge to Disconnect to Reconnect with your family during meal times! You’ll also find some great recipe inspiration there for your next family dinner!
Win It!
