Disney’s FROZEN is now in theaters and it is a HUGE hit! I have yet to go see it yet but my husband took our 5 year old son to see it and he absolutely loved it! So much that he convinced his Grandma to take him to see it again. I look forward to a Mommy/Son date soon so I can finally see FROZEN!
Since my son is so excited and has added a long list of FROZEN toys to his Christmas list – the Disney Infinity FROZEN Playset and a plush Olaf the Snowman specifically – I decided a fun treat to make would be Rice Krispie Snowflakes in honor of the movie!
This recipe for Rice Krispies treats will make 6 snowflakes (using a Wilton snowflake cookie cutter) from a 9 x 13 pan. You can adjust the size depending how large or small your snowflake cookie cutter is. (This recipe makes 12 regular sized squares). The recipe for the bars comes off a box of Rice Krispies cereal.
RICE KRISPIES INGREDIENTS
¼ cup butter or margarine (I use butter)
1 ten oz bag regular-sized marshmallows
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract (this is optional but it makes them taste SO much better!)
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
RICE KRISPIES DIRECTIONS

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat.

Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir in the pure vanilla extract.

Gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal, stirring until well coated.

Press into a buttered 9 x 13 pan ( a buttered spatula really helps the process)

Cool for one hour.

Using a round cookie cutter, make the Rice Krispies into 12 round shapes. Set aside.
SNOWFLAKE RICE KRISPIES SUPPLIES
6 Rice Krispies snowflake treats (already made from recipe above)
¾ cup blue candy melts (I used Wilton) or white candy melts with blue food coloring
White decorating icing (I used Wilton in a tube)
Blue Sugar Gems (I used Wilton)
Blue and white colored sugar crystals
Shredded coconut
Jumbo Snowflake Sprinkles (I used Wilton)
SNOWFLAKE RICE KRISPIES ASSEMBLY

Microwave the blue candy melts in 15 second increments until smooth and creamy.

Dip the Rice Krispies snowflakes into the melted candy mixture, evenly covering the entire front side of each snowflake (or you can cover the entire snowflake, if your prefer).

Lay the candy-dipped snowflakes on a wire rack to cool and set for at least 5 minutes. (I placed mine in the fridge to hurry the process along). If you covered the entire snowflake, increase the set time to 15 minutes.

Squeeze white icing onto the top of each snowflake in a snowflake pattern. Here is where you can be as creative as you would like to be. There are so many possibilities!

Sprinkle colored crystals on top of the icing and let set for a few minutes.

Apply a small amount of icing to the back of a jumbo snowflake sprinkle and affix to the snowflakes. Add as many as you would like. Let set for a few minutes.

Optional: You could insert lollipop sticks into each snowflake and make pops out of them. Or, you could place each Rice Krispie snowflake in a cellophane bag with ribbon and give out as treats. ENJOY!
