The cast is one of the best things about this movie. They made the characters spring to life, with Mae Whitman as Tinker Bell, Christina Hendricks as Zarina, Tom Hiddleston as James and Lucy Liu as Silvermist. Natasha Bedingfield’s liberating “Who I Am” number furthers the storyline perfectly.
Of course, the same awesome fairies that made their debuts in the previous Tinker Bell films: TINKER BELL (2008), TINKER BELL AND THE LOST TREASURE (2009), TINKER BELL AND THE GREAT FAIRY RESCUE (2010), PIXIE HOLLOW GAMES (2011) and SECRET OF THE WINGS (2012) and were included. But this time the headstrong Zarina joins them. She is a brilliant, inventive and a misunderstood Dust Keeper Fairy. She goes against the rules and concocts a magical Blue Pixie dust. Zarina is determined to show all of Pixie Hollow just how amazing the newfound dust is. Of course, this is met with much resistance and this causes Zarina to flee.
After Zarina leaves Pixie Hollow, she joins forces with a pirate ship from Skull Rock. Yep-same Skull Rock from the original Peter Pan movie. You can see how they used the original sketches as direct inspiration. You can read about just how amazing my experience in the Disney Animation Research Library was here!
Tink and the other fairies from Pixie Hollow set out on a courageous adventure to find their friend Zarina and to bring the Blue Pixie Dust back to save their home.
THE PIRATE FAIRY wouldn’t be complete without the tiny fairies courageously sword fighting the pirate crew. Even a young Captain Hook makes his appearance, but as a cabin boy named James- later in life the villainous Captain James Hook . Makes perfect sense, right? Remember the nefarious tick-tocking crocodile? In this movie he can be described as nothing of the sort. He is cute, cuddly and downright endearing.
Of course, no entertaining movie is without a few glitches in the story. *spoiler alert* Under unfortunate circumstances, the fairy friends’ powers get switched. They have to go on their rescue mission while learning each other’s talents on the fly. Although it is a set back. And as you can imagine, the switch has humorous results!
The animation in this 3-D animated movie was vivid, lively and beautiful. So much detail was put into the fairies costumes. Fashion designer and Project Runway winner Christian Siriano was the mastermind behind the fairies’ spunky and stylish costumes. So be prepared for animated fashion as you have never seen it before!
THE PIRATE FAIRY teaches us a lesson about true, loyal friendship. It doesn’t matter if you are a boy or a girl-these stereotypical roles are now obsolete. Goals, strength, passion and sword-fighting skills can be mastered by either sex. The skills and talents are individual to each person-and an important part of who they are! Around the dinner table we discussed the message behind THE PIRATE FAIRY. Even the three year old understood the moral of the story!
Be sure to visit the official Disney THE PIRATE FAIRY website for a little inside information, where to get your fancy fairy pirate costumes and other merchandise, you can read about each of the fairies and there are interactive games too!

Huge fan of everything NeverLand! My baby sister can imitate the octopus from “Return to NeverLand”perfectly. Did you know that actress Brittany Murphy was the original first choice for TinkerBell over Mae Whitman? I’ll bet Natasha Bedingfield’s new song for the series will be good!
