Pretty adorable, isn’t it? Perfect for a little girl’s room… and MADE TO MATCH! You think putting it together is hard? It’s not!
Here is what you need:
- 12″X12″ Front of pillow fabric -I used a piece of pink quilter’s cotton that I found in my scraps.
- Two 8″X12″ pieces of fabric – Back of pillow fabric -Again from my scraps!
- 10″X10″ pillow
- Thread
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Enough ribbon to cover your pillow front
First, lay out your ribbon so you have a game plan to follow:
Cut your ribbon a little longer than your fabric. Sew the ribbon onto the fabric starting at one side and working your way across making sure the sides of the ribbon meet.
I used a zigzag stitch so I could attach the right side of one piece of ribbon with the left side of the next. I thought the zigzag added a touch of “cuteness” too! Here is what the backside of the fabric square looked like when I was finished:
Now for the back of the pillow. Finish one side of each piece of the 8″X12″ pieces. If there is a pattern, make sure you are finishing the opposite sides. I used a zigzag stitch to match the front. Just fold the fabric over a half inch, press, fold over again, press and then sew.
Lay the pillow front with ribbon side up. Place a side of the back of the pillow fabric so that the rough edges match up with the rough edges of the pillow front.
Do the same with the other piece of the back of the pillow fabric, but on the opposite side. The finished sides of both the front and the back of the pillow should be facing each other.
Pin around the perimeter of the square. You should have formed a pocket.
Sew around the perimeter of the square. Turn inside out. Pop your pillow in and there you have it!
Here is a list of some of the ribbons that are used in the above pillow:
Classic Harvest orange and white Taffy striped 7/8″ grosgrain ribbon
Powder Pink 3/8″ grosgrain ribbon with white polka dots
Halloween Orange 3/8″ grosgrain ribbon with white polka dots
Red and Hot Pink Jester/Diamonds on 7/8″ grosgrain ribbon
Shocking Pink Rosebuds on white 1.5″ grosgrain ribbon
Geranium Pink and White checked gingham 3/8″ grosgrain ribbon
Gorgeous white Moonstitch on pink 7/8″ grosgrain ribbon Easter
Solid hot pink 3/8 inch grosgrain ribbon
Elegant white swirls 3/8″ bright pink grosgrain ribbon
And where did all of this fabulous ribbon come from? Ribbon Revelry!
This Etsy store has the most lovely collection of ribbon in varying widths and absolutely every occasion! In less than a year Ribbon Revelry has had OVER 5,000 sales! Who is the lady behind Ribbon Revelry? Would you believe it started with just one roll of classic red & white striped ribbon? Chelsea, the owner of Ribbon Revelry purchased it to make bows and clips for her two girls, Isabella (8) and Macey (5). But she didn’t need all 50 yards so during a night of insomnia, she took a chance and listed it on Etsy. It sold and then it sold again and again! Chelsea was working as a real estate agent, but since the market had slowed she turned ribbon into her job and she loves it! She is able to stay home with her girls and she meets people from all over the world! She says that she loves hearing what people will make with her wares and seeing the pictures of the creations. Chelsea also loves the hunt of finding new and different ribbons that she knows her customers will love as well!
There are so many I like! My favorites are the Funny Farm Animals and the bee print.
