I’ve been doing a lot of reading with my second grader and while reading, I’ll usually point at the word I want him to read. After awhile, I realized that using my finger was totally boring. You know what makes reading fun? Lightsabers!
Like most kids, the addition of anything fun helps Hayden to learn. I have seen different reading pointers in teacher’s stores and on Pinterest so thought Lightsaber reading pointers would be the perfect addition to Hayden’s reading. Plus, these are super easy and fun to make.
Supplies
- Pipe cleaners {I got red and black for Darth Vader and Darth Maul’s lightsabers plus green for Yoda’s}
- 12″ wooden dowel sticks
Directions
- For the base of the lightsaber, wrap the black pipe cleaner {or gray if you are doing Yoda – my craft store was out of it!} around the wooden dowel starting at the bottom. You can use hot glue if you want to make sure it sticks to the stick.
- Then choose what color pipe cleaner you want for your lightsaber and begin wrapping it around the wooden stick.
- Again, you can use hot glue to make sure the end of the pipe cleaner sticks to the wooden dowel. I didn’t and it’s been working out perfectly.
Are you looking for something more fun that using your pointer finger while reading with the kids? Then these Lightsaber reading pointers are for you!
