This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and there are so many great ideas out there to celebrate your child’s teachers! Hayden has some great teachers for this year so I wanted to make them something special. I kept seeing these Pencil Teacher Signs all over Pinterest and thought that there must be a way that I can do it myself!
I’m someone that likes EASY crafts though so at first I thought I’d make a sign in the shape of the pencil but then I realized that home improvement stores don’t make precision cuts and I don’t have the tools or the skills to do it myself. I scored though when I went to Home Depot and saw these wooden garden stakes for 26 cents that already look like pencils!! Woo-hoo! They were perfect for my DIY Pencil Sign! They are 1×2, so a lot smaller than I wanted to make the sign but it still works and is super cute. It’s perfect for them to put on their desk or a shelf in the classroom.
As I said earlier, I like easy crafts and this one can’t really get any easier. You can see the supplies I used below, but it’s pretty much just paint.
I painted everything freehand but next time I make these, I will use something a little bit more precise. Also, instead of using black paint I highly recommend just using a sharpie as I discovered when making this Teachers Crate for School Supplies! You can use a stencil, stickers or just write the name yourself like I did!
If you’re still looking for a last minute gift for teachers that is easy, this is it! Make sure to check out my other ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week too!
