As a mom of 3, it seems like someone is always sick in our household. It cycles through and is never-ending! It’s also hard to get to the doctor with all 3 kids because unless they are all sick, I hate bring the healthy ones with me where they eventually will pick up germs and get sick themselves. Now, wouldn’t it be nice if doctors made house calls still?!
These days, they do. With the help of technology, there is ! It’s an app available in iTunes and the Google Play Store and it’s been a lifesaver! You can now have a video chat with board-certified physicians and psychiatrists, and doctorate-level psychologists via your smartphone, tablet and computer. It’s fast and SO convenient – especially for a mom with kids who doesn’t want to leave the house!
Lately, I’ve been having this THING linger around. I don’t know if it’s a cold, sinus infection or allergies, but it’s definitely starting to disrupt my days and I can’t have that. So one night after putting the kids to bed, I decided to sit down and try out Doctor On Demand to see if they could help me.
Doctor On Demand is SO easy to use. Once I downloaded the free app, I filled in a bit of information about myself, my symptoms and then I was being connected with a doctor for a video visit. After chatting with them about my history, a little bit about my home environment (and how bad St. Louis is for allergies!!), the doctor actually came to the conclusion that I have a sinus infection. I have a bad history of them and I had all of the symptoms. I was actually able to get a prescription sent to my pharmacy from the doctor so I could get on antibiotics and kick this sinus infection.
If I was going to go to the doctor for myself, I can’t even begin to tell you the logistics there would be. First, I’d have to schedule an appointment while my girls were in school (which is only 2 days a week, 3 hours a day) or I’d have to try and get a sitter for them. All so I could take care of myself! I bet there are so many moms out there like me that put off going to the doctor because it’s just too hard. I love that Doctor On Demand is such a great alternative to going to the urgent care or emergency room for common medical conditions. It also will be great when you just do’t want to pack your kid up and take them out of the house to get seen by a doctor.
Medical visits with a doctor from Doctor On Demand is only $40 – less than my co-pay at urgent care or the emergency room! Plus, Doctor On Demand is now covered by many health plans. Your visit may be fully or partially covered by your health plan or employer.
Want to try yourself? I’ve got a special code where you can get $10 off your first visit! Just use the code SIPPYCUP10! I’d love to hear about your experience!
