Can you imagine being away from your children for a few days? It might sound like a nice break, but how would you feel if you were away from your child for a few months? What if you missed their birth? It’s hard to imagine, but so many military families are living everyday without their loved ones….missing those special moments of a first smile, a first step, a first lost tooth. I honestly can’t imagine being away from my children for a long period of time and I respect and look to those military families in awe each day. I’ll never forget flying into Atlanta once and having the chance to watch a military families reunion. It definitely brought me to tears and I’m glad I was able to see if because it made me even more thankful to our military.
Dove Men+Care has partnered with Operation Homefront and their goal is to reunite 300 military families. Watch this video of John meeting his newborn son for the first time after being away from his family for seven months. You may want to grab a few tissues before you watch the video!
I started buying Dove Men+Care for my husband a few years ago. We use a variety of Dove products in our household and I’m so happy to hear that each purchase helps support Dove in its mission to care for our troops with Operation Homefront. I absolutely love this initiative and can’t wait to hear more heartwarming stories like John’s.

My brother served in the Navy so the emotions of being reunited resonated with me.
I was very touching to see a father seeing his baby for the first time.
I have tears in my eyes. I can’t even imagine. My husband helps so much with our two kids. I don’t think I could do it alone and that poor dad missing out on so much with his family 🙁
So emotional, We just had a baby girl a few weeks ago so this was hitting close to home
I feel so much compassion for John and his family! This family loves each other very much and it is so hard to see that they have to be away from one another for so long. John and his wife finds ways to stay in touch and remain close to each other. I thank all the brave men and women in the military for their service!
i liked the father and baby together! 🙂
I am fortunate enough to come home to my family every night. The great thing about modern technology is that we have closed the gap between our servicemen and their families by allowing them to connect from thousands of miles away in real time.
It made me think how much military people sacrifice in order to protect this country
Wow so touching – I can’t imagine how military families do it!
Missing your son’s birth would be so compounded by not being able to be there right away afterwards.
so sad i feel right now i cried while watching it
Wow, what a tear jerker! It’s amazing the sacrifices the military make to protect our country. Such heroes! It was touching to see the love.
For all men and women who serve the country. I can’t thank them and their family enough for their sacrifice.

It is so powerful to see up close the sacrifices that our soldiers have to make and how it affects them and their families. The love and strength in the video is so evident – thanks for sharing.
My son was in Iraq when his first babies were born (twin girls just like you). So he missed out on their birth, etc. So difficult and our military men and women sacrifice so much for our freedom
This made me cry! I feel so lucky to have been a part of such a special reunion.
What a great view into the life of a soldiers family! Thank you for sharing this is a great cause and its great that Dove is supporting it!
Loved the surprise!! Our service personal families sacrifice so much for us–this shows just a bit of it. I thank them all for their service.
It Really Touched My Heart, I Could Not Imagine The Emotions That Military Families Experience. I Appreciate Their Sacrifices Even More After Watching The Video.

Very touching and so emotional. I am grateful for his sacrifice.
My Husband was in the military when our oldest son was born so it brings back a mix of emotions for me.
The real, raw emotion really touched me. The sacrifices our military personal make is really inspiring.
That was so touching that he opened up the way he did. I was glad that he could finally meet his son and feel like a dad to him. That must have been so hard for him to miss the birth
its really amazing how strong they are and i would like to thank them for all they do.
It’s so hard to be away from my baby even just working my 40 hour week so I can’t even imagine

Love the pro-military feel of the video
I grew up in the military and know what it is like to have an absnet father, I cannot imagine having baby without my husband in the room.
I think its the sweetest thing I have ever seen! Things like that always make me cry. My husband is a US Marine and has been in for 6 years and I’m happy to say he has never had to deploy, thank God!
This was a moving video it reminds me of when my nephew saw his dad after returning from Iraq.
The video was very touching, especially since we’re a military family
This video is so sad/heart warming – especially when John couldn’t be at home for their second baby’s birth.
Thank you.
I realize even more the great sacrifice people in the military make to serve their country.
That parents in the military sometimes miss important events in their family life
I know how hard distance can be, so it’s a touching video.
How heart-breaking, in general what resonates with me is just the feelings of missing your family for such long periods
Members of my family have served in the military and I know it is difficult to have families separated in difficult times.
When his wife cried. You could tell she’d been holding it together for so long.
very emotional! i have so much compassion for military families!
Wow, I wish I had a box of tissues while watching that. I think this was beyond touching. We need to bring our men and women home.

I love this video, I watched it 3 times….
What an amazing moment when they walked through the door. It brought tears to my eyes. I think this is wonderful what Dove is doing. It makes me happy knowing that I buy Dove Men Care and can help in a little way.
It’s hard to think about fathers missing the births of their children. I couldn’t imagine going into labor and not having that support by my side. It does make you remember all the sacrifices people serving in the military make.
Very touching and sweet! 🙂
I loved this video, I know what its like being married into military and so do my kids, to be away for a long period of time from my husband
It made me cry! Happy and sad at the same time.
My Dad was not Military, but he had a career with the Government that kept him away for weeks at a time. one day when I was in my 20’s and he had retired, he told me, with tears in his eyes, that leaving and being away from his family, away from me, was the hardest thing he had ever done in his life. My Father passed a few years ago, and I hadn’t thought about that conversation with him again until now. Thank you.
This was a very touching.
It was so sweet! My husband looked over at me like I was crazy cause I’m sitting here on the computer with tears in my eyes.
Sad and happy at the same time!
it resonated with me because it reminded me that it’s not just the soldier that is sacrificing for me and other american citizens, but his family is sacrificing too.
