It’s 11:30 pm and while Hubby checks on the kids, I am setting his cell phone alarm on the sly. I am more than a bit technologically challenged, but luckily we have the same phone. Instead of the normal 7 a.m. alarm, we will be waking a half an hour earlier. I attach a little note-if you have to be surprised with an earlier alarm, it might be nice to find a little note with a heart, right?
The next morning, I sneak downstairs to get the coffee going before his alarm is set to go off. But not our normal coffee… more on that later!
Oooh… so sleepy and so confused! It’s Monday morning and I’m bombarding him like the paparazzi!
But Hubby is a good sport! Even in the early hours on a Monday morning! I tell him I’m documenting something for the blog. I promise to tell him after he gets a cup of coffee in him. He seems okay with that so I continue to take pictures…
I hand the sweet man a cup of coffee… but shhh… not our usual Starbucks Breakfast blend. Do you think Hubby will notice?
He does! And he likes it!
And I love it too! We have tried many different varieties of coffee in our house, but never Peet’s! Café Domingo is a medium bodied blend, but it’s a wonderfully richer flavor than what we were previously drinking. Café Domingo has a smooth taste and a crisp finish. I love the fullness of the coffee flavor just softened a smidge with coconut milk (non-dairy for the baby with allergies). My husband is traditional with his coffee, just a little half and half!
And mismatched cups so we can tell the difference!
Ten minutes later we are pouring our second cup and the coffee is working it’s magic. Automatically conversation about kids, errands, daily life starts… but no! It’s a date! The house even smells like a little coffee bistro! So I bring out the list of “first date questions” I found online.
Four questions and 25 minutes later we have savored 4 cups of delicious coffee, made it through 4 first date questions and had more than a few laughs. We are still holding hands when we hear the kids coming down the stairs and the baby stirring on the monitor.
Apparently he enjoyed the coffee and the date! We now have a new coffee of choice and we decide to make this “morning coffee date” a regular occurrence! And Hubby takes another cup of Café Domingo to work with him. It was a wonderful start to our Monday!

Oh that is so fun! Love the sleepy, confused look on his face. My husband was so tired when I did the switch he didn’t even notice me snapping away until after he took his first sip. 😉

That is so cute! I will leave my door unlocked so you can make me coffee in the morning 😉 I am saving the 15 questions so I can ask them over dinner some night. I don’t wake up until early afternoon while my boyfriend takes care of our son. This is such a cute idea though!
