A few months ago, I started thinking about taking a relaxing family vacation. So often, our trips are always on the go. We visit as many places as we can and then we collapse in the evening before settling down for bed. I longed for a place where I could go with my family and just BE with them with minimal technology distractions and a beautiful view. My family found the perfect place when we visited Cedar Creek Resort in New Haven, Missouri.
Cedar Creek Resort is located in New Haven, Missouri in the rolling hills of Missouri Wine Country. It’s a little over an hour away from St. Louis so it was the perfect escape from us. The closer we got the the resort, the more I could feel myself relax at the beautiful scenery all around us. When we pulled up, I couldn’t believe how quiet it was!
Stay
We arrived to stay for the long Memorial Day weekend and I was ready for this escape. Cedar Creek offers several different options for lodging for families of all sizes. In addition to Cedar Lodge which offers 37 guest rooms, there are also 4 different houses that you could book your stay in.
When we first pulled up, we got a glimpse of the Manor House, a historic house with modern amenities that was built in the 1860’s. The Manor House features five spacious and finely decorated guestrooms, as well as a kitchen, dining room and multiple living spaces. The Manor House also has satellite television and complimentary WiFi. This would be the perfect place to stay for a family reunion!
When checking out the Cedar Creek website, I have to admit that I fell in love with the Little Lodge. Imagine my happiness when I found out that we were staying there! The Little Lodge was completed in the 19th Century and features three guest rooms, two full baths and a large living area and kitchen on the main floor. This was perfect for my family of five. It also has a screened porch and a shaded garden for relaxing. The Little Lodge is such a peaceful place, I didn’t ever want to leave. Just sharing these pictures with you makes me wish I was back there!
On the main floor, you’ll find the large living area. There’s a kitchen, a dining table and a living room. There is also a bedroom that includes a full bed, a twin bed and a full bathroom.
Head upstairs and you’ll find a large bedroom that has two full beds, a full bathroom and a connecting bedroom with another full bed. That was the perfect spot to set up the pack and plays for our twin girls. The house is a great setup if you have kids.
Oh, and the screened porch? We spent so much time out there. After the kids went to sleep, my husband and I spent time out there drinking wine from Stone Hill Winery, a local winery. It was completely dark outside and just so quiet. It’s so quiet and secluded that at one point, I got a little nervous. We just don’t have that peace and quiet here!
Play
If you ever get tired of relaxing, you’ll love that there is SO much to do at Cedar Creek Resort. What I really love is that there are activities for the whole family and for just adults too.
My son had never gone fishing before so he was excited for some bonding time with Dad at the fully stocked, 7 acre lake. They even provide the fishing rods – check out this Fishing Rod and Reel Combo!
More activities include a 9-hole golf course, tennis court, hiking and biking trails, recreation room, saltwater swimming pool and an outdoor movie theater!
You may be wondering what those buildings are behind the pool. Oh, that is just a Western Town! My son went nuts over this piece of Cedar Creek Resort. The Western Town was built in the 1950’s and the design is based off of Hollywood photos of a movie lot. Hayden loved exploring this area and climbing up on the covered wagon.
Eat
Located in the Western Town, you’ll find the Town Hall. The Town Hall is a bar and grill that is open from noon to 7:00 pm for lunch and dinner. The menu is posted on the Cedar Creek Facebook page and everything includes in-season ingredients and menu items made from scratch.
We ate at Town Hall on a Saturday evening and enjoyed sitting out on their deck as we listened to live music. I ordered the Greek Salad and my husband ordered the Muffuletta Sandwich while we also shared the Flatbread with Olive Oil and Sausage, Cheese and Fruit platter with the kids.
You can even order your food and bring it back to where you are staying. I headed down and placed a to-go order one night when the kids were acting particularly crabby. That night, we had to order more of their delicious homemade Flatbread. While my husband ordered the Greek Salad I had the previous night, I ordered the Turkey in the Rough Sandwich and I LOVED it!
For breakfast, you can head to The Swiss Chalet for a free continental breakfast. Offerings include scrambled eggs, the best bacon you will ever eat, pastries, fruit, yougurt and more. Each morning we had breakfast on the patio while butterflies flew all around us. It was so picture perfect!
2nd Shift Brewery
Right in the Western Town, you’ll find 2nd Shift Brewery, a microbrewery that offers beer full of flavor. Imagine my husband’s surprise when he discovered this! There’s a tasting room that is open on the weekends from noon to 7:00 pm, plus the beer is served at the Town Hall.
There’s so much to do at Cedar Creek Resort, you don’t even have to leave. If you’re looking to go someplace nearby though, I highly recommend heading to Hermann, Missouri which is only about 10 minutes away. It’s in the heart of Missouri Wine Country and features nine different wineries. We visited Stone Hill Winery and Hermannof Winery. My husband and I are already planning a day trip back to explore the town just ourselves!
Cedar Creek Resort is the perfect place to get away for a much needed quiet and technology free family vacation. It’s also a great place if you’re looking for somewhere to plan an event. They offer corporate retreats, weddings and family reunions. It’s a great place for family pictures, too! I almost wish we would have asked our family photographer to come up with us for some photos!
As we left Cedar Creek Resort after a long, recharging weekend, I told my husband that this is a place that we need to come back yearly. It’s the place where your children grow up with memories of visiting there each summer and look forward to it and all of the different activities there is to do. It will be our new tradition.
Disclosure: A huge thank you to Cedar Creek Resort for hosting our family for the weekend. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Exactly! And we really didn’t use it at all since we are at the Town Hall for dinner and out for lunches in Hermann. It was great for making coffee and snacks. But I could have easily done a meal in there too.

Cedar Creek is a wonderful place! So glad you got to come to New Haven! Our town is a lot of fun and packs a lot to do in a small, quaint town. I am guessing you didn’t get to the historic downtown area. We have galleries, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, a music venue, the levee river walk on the Missouri River, a Walt Disney theater, and a distillery! So much to do in a 1 block town! Hope you come visit us on your next trip to town!
Sippy Cup Mom says
Hi Laura! We didn’t have a chance to visit but we did drive through. I just love how quaint it is. We definitely want to come back and visit again so we can explore more.
