Planning a holiday with the family can prove to be a little more difficult when taking your kids into consideration. You have to ensure that everyone will have a great time and that you plan activities that are completely family-friendly. This doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself, however. There are plenty of fantastic destinations with enough entertainment to keep everybody happy. I’ve come up with a few of the best to give you some ideas this summer. As followers of my blog will know, my family and I often enjoy holidays within America. However there are some really great locations elsewhere that are worth checking out if you’re looking for something a bit different.
A Barbados holiday is wonderful if you’re looking to kick back and relax with a slightly slower pace of life. This is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands and is a really friendly, chilled out kind of place. English is the primary language here, so you don’t have to worry about struggling with miscommunication, which should make your trip a whole lot easier. There are some great, family-oriented resorts to stay at and the potential for a number of really special family fun days. For example, no Barbados holiday would be complete without some exploration of the crystal clear waters around the island, but if, like us, you have children too young for scuba or snorkelling, then an Atlantis Adventures submarine excursion could be perfect for you. You get to see some incredible sea life, including sharks, sting rays and sea turtles, and everyone gets their own porthole so you won’t miss a minute of it!
Costa Rica is another hot spot for a great family holiday. The country plays host to Playa Platanares Park; located just a few miles outside Puerto Jimenez, the rainforest paradise is a short flat walk, suitable for small children and families. There is an abundance of wildlife on view, along with the opportunity to take an excursion on a sunset tour via a kayak to see the terrain from a unique viewpoint. The friendly locals, along with a long list of outdoor activities, certainly make Costa Rica high up on the list of family-friendly destinations.
For somewhere a little closer to home, why not think about Canada? Toronto is a thrilling city with so much on offer it might be difficult to know where to start! The Centreville Amusement Park is located on Centre Island, which is part of the Toronto Islands. Kids will have the chance to ride ponies, drive miniature fire engines around a track and go wild in the bumper boats. You can try a Funnel Cake at the Funnel Cake Shop and spend an hour or two at Chelsea Beach – a real mixed bag of fun activities to get involved with!
Wherever you decide to go, think about getting the kids involved in planning so they feel like they’re helping. And remember just to have a lot of fun!
Barbabos and Costa Rica sound wonderful. I luv Canda, also the Cape Breton Highlands in Nova Scotia are so pretty, and you can go hiking and just wander!
