Fantastic Marvel Movies to Watch with the Kids

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a huge franchise that’s literally everywhere — you can’t even go grocery shopping without encountering products bearing the legendary comic book label’s famed characters. Marvel movies are always blockbuster hits, but many moms are concerned about how appropriate they are for younger kids and families to watch. Fortunately, there are several good choices that don’t have much in the way of explicit language or gratuitous violence.
Pick out one of these great Marvel flicks, start passing the popcorn, and get ready for some excellent entertainment.

The Avengers (2012)

This is a favorite of Marvel fans and Marvel loving families because it has everything you could want in a movie from the franchise: Iron Man and Captain America exchanging quips, Bruce Banner trying to control his morph into the Hulk, and Black Widow being amazing as always. The story line of this movie isn’t difficult for kids of all ages to follow, and the pace is good for family movie night. Plus, there are some seriously funny scenes and Loki makes an interesting and not too diabolical villain. If your kids are sensitive to death scenes, you’ll want to steer clear of this movie. Otherwise, your family will likely want to see this pop culture hit again and again.

Thor (2011)

You can definitely check out this second installment of the movie with your kids to see why the first Thor movie was so well liked. There’s a bit of romance involved, but nothing too heavy. What’s great about this movie is it’s not as dark as the sequel and it has a lot of funny moments — you’ll all want to re-watch the coffee shop scene. If you plan on catching the third installment in this character’s series next year, be sure you’re all up to speed by watching this movie.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

So many boys and girls love Captain America, and his first movie is the one that most moms won’t have a problem with their children watching. While The Winter Soldier and Civil War are definitely darker and more violent, this movie is a lot easier for children to handle. Besides, who wouldn’t have fun watching how America’s greatest hero got his super speed and that iconic Vibranium shield?

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Guardians of the Galaxy is easily one of the more family friendly Marvel films, and it’s also filled with humor. Though there are some character deaths, the movie manages to balance things out and it contains great lessons about compassion, loyalty, and what it truly means to be a hero. The soundtrack to this movie is wonderful as well.

Spiderman (2002)

The themes in this movie are appropriate for children — you can even squeeze in a character lesson from this film if you wanted to. It’s enjoyable for adults as well, and watching this version of Spiderman is a good idea considering the franchise is about to reboot the character in a new upcoming movie. Though there is some romance between the main characters, there’s nothing obscene or explicit that will necessitate having to shield your children’s eyes.
