When it comes time to buying a new car for a busy family, you don’t have the luxury of choosing whatever looks the coolest. You need to consider certain practicalities that will immediately disqualify a ton of vehicles on the market.
Safety features, size, your children’s ages, your home’s climate: these are all things you need to take into account when choosing a new family car.
However, buying practical doesn’t mean buying boring! You can buy a luxury SUV that fits your family’s fast paced lifestyle without sacrificing style or pizazz.
But some cars work better for busy moms than others. What do you look for in the best luxury SUVs aimed at families?
What to Look For
Fortunately for us busy moms, there are plenty of vehicle options that come stacked with features aimed at making OUR lives easier. Imagine that!
First, consider your family’s size. How much room do you need to fit your entire clan and a backpack for each? That should narrow your options down then and there.
Then ask yourself what sort of safety features are non-negotiable for you. This is a big question, and the answer could cover a lot of ground—enough to constitute an article of its own. So I won’t go into great depth here.
That said, if all else is equal bigger cars are just safer. You can look at a car and discern whether it is a safer option by judging the distance from the front of the car to the cab of the vehicle. A greater distance between the bumpers of the cars and the cab where the occupants sit corresponds with safer cars.
You should know that crash test scores don’t consider things like car size or the length from the cab to the front of the car.
For what it’s worth, you are getting what you pay for when it comes to safety features on luxury cars. The little features–like adaptive lighting and forward collision avoidance systems–that make luxury cars FEEL luxurious actually contribute to keeping you safe, too.
Consider your budget. Are you willing to buy used? You could be missing out on some safety innovations that come with buying newer cars, but you could be saving some serious dough by doing it.
Another potential expense to consider is a warranty for your vehicle. You can find more information on extended car warranties here: https://gogetolive.com/extended-car-warranty/cadillac/.
Optional Features
Okay, I’ll admit it: I’m the first to side-eye the word “optional” in some of these cases. After all, cupholders might seem like a luxury when you’re looking at cars in theory…but you’ll always wish you had 1,000 more when your twins are flailing their juiceboxes around.
Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything…
When it comes to luxury cars, you’re paying for safety and a designer brand. But they also come equipped with thoughtful little additions that improve your quality of life. Some cars have grocery hooks. Others have extra storage compartments—perfect for sports equipment or luggage!
Heated seats, tinted glass, back windshield wipers: these are all features you should consider contingent on your climate. They might seem negotiable, but when you’re paying a premium for a vehicle you might as well ensure you and your family will be as comfortable as possible.
Swagger Wagon Features
And finally, we come to the good stuff: the swagger features. Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you stop wanting to have fun, right?
So what’s wrong with wanting a luxury car whose car doors open vertically? Nothing! In fact, that’s pretty cool! I’d say my ten year old son is proud when I roll up after school in my G-wagon with his sisters. A click of the button and the doors open for him, without either of us having to lift a finger.
Am I trying to say that having a luxury vehicle makes me a better mom? Uh, no. I don’t think so.
But it does feel pretty cool to have my son think I’M pretty cool.
Think about how much time you spend shuffling kids and teens to and from school, extracurriculars, appointments, errands…I could go on.
The point is: when you’re spending a good amount of time in a vehicle, you deserve to feel safe in it. But you also deserve to feel good.
So don’t opt for the mommy van just because it’s the easy choice. For keeping a happy family and home, you should be rewarded. The fact that that “reward” comes in the form of a car keeping your family safe is just icing!
