Five Things You Should Know About Electric Cars

You’re watching electric vehicles becoming more and more popular right now. It was always said that most of the cars would be electric by 2030, but it seems like more people than ever are buying electric cars over buying gas powered vehicles. 

Of course there’s a reason for that. Electric vehicles are on the way because of solar energy, meaning that charging becomes easier and many people are choosing to be more environmentally friendly instead of burning through gas. Given that we are all seeing the prices are going through the roof, people are more easily able to buy electric vehicles. There’s so much that you need to know about electric cars, and we’ve got down a list of those things for you here.

1. There is a much lower environmental footprint than conventional cars. When it comes to EV’s running, you have to consider EV charging etiquette – it’s much like gas station fill-ups: you wait your turn. Electric vehicles don’t have exhaust pipes, they don’t emit gasses when they run and that’s both great for the environment and the air quality around you. They consume less than 1/3 of the energy consumed per kilometer as an equivalent to the petrol powered cars. Electric motors in electric vehicles have efficiency values above 90%, and a combustion engine in a similar sized vehicle doesn’t ever exceed 40%. 

2. Electric vehicles are quieter. One of the biggest reasons that people choose electric vehicles is the fact that they have the ability to drastically reduce noise pollution. This impacts both humans and wildlife, and if you consider that people are exposed to harmful levels of road traffic noise every day, you could be a part of the solution rather than a part of a problem.

3. Electric vehicle batteries are efficient. Not only are they sustainably sourced, but EV batteries are also recyclable. The technological progress has meant that battery performance is improving massively and batteries are already capable of withstanding several 1000 charging cycles. This means you’re not going to be losing your battery or wearing it out, just within a couple of charges.

4. The driving range is increasing. The recharging network across the EV community is growing. We just mentioned EV battery charging etiquette, but you need to think about how many other people in your area have electric vehicles and how many in the area will be charging them. Speak to your local council if you’re planning on having an electric vehicle and you may need planning permission for a battery charging station to be put in.

5. They are going to be cheaper to run. Electric vehicles may be cheaper to run than conventional cars and that should be a weight off your shoulder. The total cost of an electric car is much lower than with the conventional vehicle. Consider this when you are weighing up the costs.
