As a family, one of our favorite things to do together is take a trip. Whether it’s a long, luxurious holiday or just a few days away from home, we find that getting away from “real life” is one the most refreshing things we can do. Florida holidays are always fun for us and a few months ago we traveled down there with the kids and enjoyed some of the local attractions on offer.
We stayed in Miami, which was a great base for us, because it meant we had all the most appealing attractions on hand and we didn’t have to pay much extra for travel. Now, as I’m sure most regular readers are aware by now, the Sippy Family love Disney! So first on our list was, of course, a visit to Disney World. Personally I love the Magic Kingdom. I’m a big kid at heart, so it’s fabulous getting to see all my favorite characters roaming around. Getting our picture taken with them is just great, and it’s wonderful to see my son engaging with them too.
We also spent some time in Dade County when we went to Monkey Jungle. This wonderful place allows visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the monkeys, without the worry of them launching an attack. See, the ingenious thing here, is that the monkeys roam free through the hardwood hammock, while the humans wend their way through caged walkways. I think this is just great – occasionally I find myself feeling sorry for animals in zoos that might not have the space they need to live comfortably. Here there’s no need to worry. There are around 400 monkeys living on this 30-acre reserve and it’s one of the few protected spots for endangered primates in the USA. As well as being able to wander through this monkey wonderland, you also have the option to adopt a monkey. With prices ranging from $25 for a Java monkey to $500 for a gorilla, you can help to fund and perpetuate this fantastic habitat.
We also had a great day at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, where we strolled through the gorgeous scenery and really enjoyed the huge array of tropical plants. It’s a great place to relax and really get away from the world for a while, with enticing fragrances catching on the breeze and exotic flowers hanging from the canopy. There are so many different nooks and crannies to explore here; it’s a great place to bring the family as there are things to learn in this beautiful fusion of science and nature. Yet another reason to visit Florida – and we’ll surely be back sometime soon!
