When it comes to feeding my family, I have been in somewhat of a rut. My husband told me he doesn’t know what he will do if I serve up chicken one more time! I’m always looking for new recipes to put into my meal plan so my family doesn’t get tired of the same old meals. But this time, I decided to REALLY change it up. I know you’ve heard of a sandwich, but what about a Strangewich? It’s good to try new things at meal time – it catches the interest of the kids and it got the conversation going as my kids told me what they would add to their Strangewich. A Strangewhich is like a sandwich but with “strange” ingredients you normally wouldn’t think to add.
I was challenged by Hellmann’s and Target to try something new for dinner and I decided to try making two different sandwiches – both featuring Hellmann’s Mayo (available at Target!) but combined with ingredients you might not think of at first!
The first is a super simple sandwich to make and is known as the Dale Earnhardt Jr. sandwich – it features white bread, bananas and Hellmann’s mayo. That’s it! Super easy to make and strangely delicious!
The Dale Earnhardt Jr. Sandwich
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise
- 2 slices of white bread
- 1/2 banana, sliced
Directions
- Evenly spread Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.
- Top 1 bread slice with banana, then top with remaining bread slice.
The Dale Earnhardt Jr. Sandwich was a dinner in our house! The sweet banana combined with the mayo made for a delicious combination! This was a sandwich (a strangwich!) we would most definitely eat again!
We also tried this Salty Sweet Sandwich which was definitely a combination I wouldn’t have thought of!
Salty Sweet Sandwich
Ingredients
- 3 slices of whole grain bread
- 2 Tbsp. creamy peanut butter, divided
- 1/2 banana, sliced
- 2 Tbsp. Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise, divided
- 6 mini pretzels
Directions
- Spread one side of 1 bread slice with 1 tablespoon peanut butter; top with bananas.
- Spread another bread slice with 1 tablespoon Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise and place Mayo side down on top of bananas.
- Spread top of bread with remaining 1 tablespoon peanut butter, then top with pretzels.
- Spread remaining slice bread with remaining Mayonnaise and place on top.
The Salty Sweet Sandwich again was good….but in a really strange way. It was crunchy, sweet and salty all at once! I think my husband and I liked it more than the kids!
It’s so fun to try something strange for dinner! Try something strange with your family soon using Hellmann’s Mayo. If you head into Target through October 1st, you’ll get 2 for $7 of the Hellmann’s Mayo Real Squeeze bottles!
I’d love to hear what strange dinner you’ll be making soon. Don’t forget to pick up Hellmann’s at a Target near you while they are on sale 2 for $7!

I love sandwiches but I have to admit I don’t think I would try these. Now I would probably try a sandwich with the peanut butter, bananas and pretzels together.

Not sure what strange thing I will be making soon. My husband likes banana sandwiches – perhaps I should make him one of these strangewiches.

I LOVE sandwiches but I don’t know if could eat any of these. I Did see a Comercial where they replaced the butter on grilled cheese with mayo. We tried that and it was good.
