Spring is such a warm welcome after being cooped up in your house all winter long. Now that the season has passed, it’s time to find ways to enjoy the warm weather. If you’re like most families, fun things like going to the park, grabbing some ice cream, watching ballgames, and other outdoor activities. While these are all great ways to enjoy the warmer weather, sometimes home is the best place to be.
Your backyard is the perfect place to enjoy the warm weather. It’s an extension of your home where you can participate in so many fun outdoor activities. Here are just a few examples of how to have fun in your own backyard this year.
Backyard Barbecue
Here’s an all-time favorite for families in the spring and summer – backyard barbecues! It’s the perfect way to come together with friends, family, and even neighbors. Pull out the old grill for a few burgers and hot dogs, grab the cooler for drinks – don’t forget to check out a great spritz recipe or two! – and some music for entertainment and you’re ready to have a great time.
Go Camping
Who needs a state park or campsite when you have a backyard? You and your family can have an affordable camping trip without ever having to leave home. You’ll need tents, sleeping bags, snacks, and materials to make a campfire. Have fun sitting around the fire making smores and sharing scary stories before turning it in for the night under the stars.
Splish Splash Waterpark
High-priced tickets, expensive unhealthy food, long lines, and more can suck the fun right out of a waterpark. If you and your kids like the idea of being able to splash around and have a good time without all the drama, you can create your own waterpark at home. They have varying sized above-ground pools you can invest in along with slides and other water features for your yard. Now all everyone needs are swimsuits, a Waterpooch collar (for your canine family members), towels, and flip flops and they’re ready for a fun-filled afternoon in the yard.
Start a Garden
Now that the weather is warm it’s the perfect time to get your children interested in gardening. You can start a small garden in the backyard and work with the kids to maintain the product. There are plenty of fruits and veggies that are easy to grow like tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries, and peppers. It’s a great life skill for kids to learn and also a great way to save money and remain healthy as a family.
Just Relax
You know one of the best things your backyard is good for? Relaxation. You don’t need much more than a clear warm day, a comfortable patio chair, and perhaps a nice glass of wine or a book by your side. You can sit outside and just take in the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful skies. If you want to spring for it, you can invest in a nice porch swing or hammock for a bit more comfort.
Your backyard is the perfect oasis for you and your family to enjoy during the spring and summer. It’s a blank canvas to create so many memories and fun times together. Whether you host a cookout, relax on the swings, or plan a backyard camping trip, you’ll have a blast.
