The past year has been full of ups and downs when it comes to my health. Last summer, I just wasn’t feeling good so I decided that I had to get healthy by losing weight and working out. For months, I followed a low-carb diet and got up at 6am to head to the gym and get a workout in before the kids woke up. After losing 30 pounds, I hit a stall and I began to feel even worse. I visited doctors upon doctors and took test after test before they finally diagnosed me with a mass on my kidney which turned out to be cancerous. The good news is that the mass is gone which means the cancer is gone. I’ma month out after surgery and I’m feeling GOOD. But unfortunately, I had gained all of that weight back which means I have to get my butt into gear again.
Something that had really been helping me before my surgery was the GOQii band. With the GOQii band and app, you can track your activities, sleep and nutrition. You can even sync that information to popular apps that you might already be using like My Fitness Pal. But best of all, GOQii integrates certified health coaches that look at the big picture of your health – they analyze your activities, nutrition and sleep habits collected by the GOQii Band and App and they help you to make a permanent lifestyle change and to help you achieve your goals.
The coaching is what really helped me. I was able to look at the bios of different coaches and then choose the one that I think would fit with me and my lifestyle. I chose Charmi and was able to do a video chat with her as we talked about my health goals. I was able to be completely honest with her and tell her how I wanted to lose weight and get healthy, what my downfalls are (CARBS) and what my daily routine usually is. Charmi helped figure out a diet and exercise plan for me and she was also able to monitor how I was doing through the app. When I log my food (and took a picture of it), she’s able to see it. When I wear my band, it tracks my steps and activity and she’s also monitoring that. Best of all though are the messages of encouragement she sends. She messages me and with push notifications, I get them right away to my phone like a text. She can tell me when I need to get up and walk or give me advice on how to get through a weekend BBQ and stay strong.
Even when I ignored her (ha!), she still would send me messages of encouragement and tips. Before I was diagnosed with my kidney mass and was told that that my kidney function was off, she researched the best diets for kidneys and kept me informed on what I should do. Having this personal coach with GOQii has been the best! It’s been a great resource and source of encouragement and motivation. I’ve had personal trainers at the gym before but I love this because she’s there for me if I have any questions and right on my phone through messages or video chats. Below is a peek of a message from my coach.
Right now, you can sign up to be a part of the Beta program with GOQii. There is a waiting list, so make sure to get on the list now!
