In a recent poll, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Invisalign, it was found that Americans are more likely to seek second opinion for a major car repair than for a medical procedure or straightening their teeth. And that’s understandable, right? After all, we trust our medical professionals to know the answer and there’s no need to go to anyone else.
It’s hard, but it’s definitely important to get a second opinion in some cases. While I was pregnant with my son, I had terrible gallbladder issues. My doctor told me that it would probably go away after I had him and to just try and manage the pain. 4 months after I delivered my son, I was still in a lot of pain. My doctor fit me in but again told me she didn’t think it was too urgent and to change my diet and take medicine for the pain. I started looking for a different doctor who luckily saw me right away. After running some diagnostic tests, she discovered that I needed my gallbladder out ASAP as it was about to rupture. I headed to the emergency room where I had surgery right away and spent the next week in the hospital. Good thing I got that second opinion, right?
If we are so quick to get a second opinion on home and car repairs, why not when it comes to medical procedures and your dentist? Doesn’t your SMILE deserve a second opinion?
My husband has always been self-conscious about his smile. If you look at the many pictures I have of him, hardly any of them have his teeth showing. He had braces when he was a child but then never wore his retainer and he regrets it to this day. At his last appointment with his dentist, he brought up the topic of Invisalign. I had encouraged him to ask about it because I knew this was something that would give him more confidence. Unfortunately, our dentist said he didn’t think it would be a right fit for my husband. And that was it, he believes his dentist. He doesn’t want to wear braces and he hates the thought of having to go to another dentist. So for now, the topic is dropped.
As for me, I’ve been doing more research on Invisalign because I think it would be the right fit for my husband. From very simple to very challenging, Invisalign offers a full spectrum of clear aligner treatments for most types of teeth straightening issues. I think it’s perfect for my husband! He works in retail, so he’s always talking to people. Invisalign includes no food restrictions and the ability to easily maintain healthy dental brushing habits all while your teeth get straightened without most people knowing you are in treatment. People won’t have any idea you are wearing adult braces!
Are you thinking of Invisalign? You can take a smile assessment for you or your child to see if it’s right for you. Then, you use the Invisalign Doctor Locator to see if there is someone near you. I’m definitely going to be making an appointment for my husband with a doctor who knows and does Invisalign with their patients!

I always want a second opinion. I have been taken for a ride so to speak on car repairs, it won’t happen again.

Wow your story sounds a lot like what my daughter experienced. She had a ton of gallstones and had the worst pain between her 1st and 2nd pregnancies. She didn’t have time for a second opinion because it needed to come out ASAP as she was actually about 3 weeks along in her 2nd pregnancy.
I always try to get a second opinion on most things whether it’s medical or not.

I grew up thinking doctors had your best interests at heart until I had a kid.
Then I realized surgery, etc. is a business.
Harsh realization, but I am glad it makes me look at these things better.
thanks,
