A while ago, I was spending a few minutes of my morning coffee time enjoying one of my favorite guilty pleasures, Etsy, and I came across this card:
What a very interesting and unusual card! Just two colors, but the texture of the coffee grounds was beautiful! And you have to love that word play! This card is part of a series of sassy, original, fun cards Tenisha calls her “Food Cards”. I had to know more! I contacted Tenisha and she sent me a few including these lovely and unique selections:
The paper is soft with a smooth finish. It is 110 lb index, but for those of us who don’t know what this actually means: it is thick enough that the quality is definitely apparent while you hold it in your hand, but you don’t have to feel bad about the number of trees that it took to make it! The colors are beautifully printed; rich and saturated!
Tenisha is a freelance graphic designer who opened the doors to Designs by Tenisha in October of 2010. I had the opportunity to ask her a few questions:
What do you like most about creating?
For me it’s great to see an initial idea of mine go from a rough sketch on a note pad to a finished product. And with the help of the computer I can take my first completed version, make copies, and make changes in color, fonts, sizes etc. and see a completely new design in front of me. I love all of the steps that go into the items I create, from the first initial design, to taking photographs of a finished product, and finally shipping them off to a customer.
What inspirations do you have in your creative process and also in life?
Typography has really inspired me ever since I took my first typography class in college and realized what it was. I love how you can change the entire mood of a piece by simply changing a beautiful serif font to a big/bold sans-serif one. Most recently I’ve been inspired by food, as seen in my new food illustrations that I’ve made into note cards, bookmarks, stationery, and prints. I love watching cooking shows, in fact that’s usually what’s on the TV when I’m designing.
Where would you like to be in the next few years?
Within the next few years I hope to have this become a full time business. I’m so happy that I took a chance this year and started my own business, and I’ve been very happy with the amount of positive comments and feedback I’ve received. I also want to be able to work with stores / boutiques (of any sorts) to try and have my items for sale in their stores.
One lucky reader is going to win a set of five Thank you Cards in a color of their choice!
