You may remember that I traveled to Los Angeles last year to interview the Producers, Director and Cast of Real Steel. It was such an amazing experience and I instantly fell in love with the movie. I loved it so much that I saw it in the theaters 3 times! It’s such a heartwarming story!
I wrote a review of Real Steel a few months ago, but I was excited to get the Blu-ray to see what special features and additions there would be!
REAL STEEL is directed by Shawn Levy (Night At the Museum franchise and Date Night) and produced by Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List). Set in the not-so-distant future where boxing has gone high-tech and 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots have taken over the ring, the film stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, Evangeline Lilly as Bailey Tallet, Dakota Goyo as Max Kenton and Anthony Mackie as Finn.
The Blu-ray of Real Steel does not disappoint. The picture is bright and so detailed. The sound was clear and filled our living room.
Here are some of my favorite special features of the Blu-Ray:
– “Countdown to the Fight: The Charlie Kenton Story”: I became so invested into the characters of Real Steel and it was leaving me wanting to learn more about them! I’ve got my fingers crossed for a sequel, but in the mean time, I really enjoyed this special feature. It’s actually an ESPN documentary about Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) about his childhood, how he got into boxing, his work with Atom and more. It also features interviews from other characters from the film giving insight into Charlie’s life. This feature is a must watch if you’re looking to learn more about the character of Charlie Kenton!
– “Making Metal Valley”: There’s this great scene in Real Steel where Charlie and Max go to an old junkyard to look for pieces to put together a robot. This scene is important for many reasons. Not only is it where Max first finds Atom, I think it’s also a real turning point with Charlie and Max’s relationship. It’s here that Charlie realizes he cares for Max. This behind the scenes look shows the creation of Metal Valley and some interviews with Director Shawn Levy and special effects and stunt coordinators. You get to see exactly how they make this huge mountain, make it rain and more. Shawn Levy was charming and super enthusiastic in person and you get to see his love and excitement for Real Steel in this feature!
– “Bloopers”: I love a movie that has bloopers has a special feature. I’m always disappointed when a movie doesn’t, so I was happy to see that Real Steel had some blooper scenes! I love seeing the actors have fun with each other and a little more of that bond!
– “Deleted and Extended Scenes”: The enthusiastic Shawn Levy is back to introduce some deleted and extended scenes. He actually introduces a whole plot line that was cut from the movie. When I first heard about this plot line, I was disappointed that it was cut from the movie because it shows more about the relationship between Max and his mother that had passed away and brings Charlie and Max closer. I’m glad that the Blu-ray shows all of these scenes together! When you get the Blu-ray, you definitely have the check this out!
