At first I thought, a GORE-TEX shoe review? Isn’t GORE-TEX only for rugged outoor activities like hiking to mountaintops or across uncharted wilderness? Then I read up on it and GORE-TEX technology is making it’s way into really stylish shoes and boots everywhere!
So what makes GORE-TEX fabric waterproof and yet breathable?
The science behind GORE-TEX:
Waterproof: The microporous structure of the GORE-TEX® membrane is what makes GORE-TEX® fabrics durably waterproof. Each microscopic pore is about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, which means that external moisture – from rain to snow to that puddle you just stepped in – can’t penetrate the membrane.
Seams and stitching are essential aspects of a garment’s construction. Unfortunately, they compromise the water and liquid protective properties of the fabric: seams and needle holes may be small, but they will still leak. That’s why they must be completely sealed. For durable waterproofness and liquid resistance, our products rely on GORE-SEAM® TAPE. This unique tape, backed by reliable Gore equipment and know-how, ensures that every seam and tiny stitch hole is sealed.
Breathable: The pores in the GORE-TEX® membrane are 700 times bigger than a water vapor molecule, so perspiration can easily evaporate through and you can stay dry from the inside out. Breathability is an important component of comfort when you are active.

My thoughts:
The Colorado’s were a bit stiff for the first few outtings, which is to be expected in a quality leather shoe. These boots fit my feet comfortably, the width is consistent with a normal width shoe. The arch is of moderate height and is wonderfully supportive. They are one of the most comfortable boot shoes I have worn.
I feel a little “motorcycle mama” in them! This look is tempered with a bit of femininity as they are also just the right amount of sleek and stylish. They look great with jeans as well as with casual slacks for the office. The leather upper is high quality and a beautiful texture.
The Colorado’s are lined with an incredibly soft textile that makes you feel all warm and toasty without being suffocating and sweaty-thank you GORE-TEX! Even after running a half mile to get my oldest to school before the first bell, I didn’t get that clammy feeling that you normally would with boots like this. I was of course excited to try out the waterproof factor. And I will most definitely say that the GORE-SEAM TAPE did it’s job and they are puddle stomping-worthy! The contruction is solid and sturdy.
I will be wearing my Colorado’s to pick up the kids from school rain or shine. The breathable quality will be excellent for dusty trails on hot days and they are stylish to boot! I have no doubt that they will become a staple in my wardrobe and will last me for years to come.
