If your backyard has trees, than it’s a great opportunity for you to build a treehouse for your children. The safety and stability of the treehouse will also be important. Here are few things you need to consider if you’re going to build yourself.
1. A Suitable location
Make an analysis of your backyard and find a suitable location. An area with trees nearby will be a good option. Tree branches and shrubs should be avoided as they grow large overtime. After you’ve decided the location, a visit to the inspector’s office of the local building will be required. This is because you’ll need to know if there are any building codes for the treehouse as there may be restrictions on the steps and railings you can use. The rules are for safety purposes.
2. Materials
There will be materials required. A few examples of the required materials include pressure treated wood, T1-11 siding, hammer, saw, drill and 3M velcro tape. The materials can be bought online, or a kit can be bought from a local store. Planning ahead is a good idea, and you can buy all the required materials in advance before you start building the treehouse. This way, you’ll have all the tools when you start the construction.
3. Building
Clear any other materials from the area where you’re going to build the treehouse. As a foundation, you can start by laying the floorboards close together. The platform should be level. You should limit damage to the tree when securing the structure. You also have the option to add external wall finishes, prefix doors and windows on the ground. The treehouse platform can also include a deck. If you decide to go with one, safe railings should surround the deck.
Remember, you don’t have to go for a conventional treehouse. You can also add windows and doors. However, they need to be in proportion to the design.
4. Finishing touches
After the basic work is done, you can add a few finishing touches to the treehouse that children are going to love. To make it more adventurous for the child, you can install a rope bridge for access instead of stairs or ladders. To make the treehouse more special, you can add swing and a slide. You should try to recycled items wherever possible.
By keeping these things in mind, you would be able to build a safe treehouse which the children will enjoy.
