Disney’s Dream – You’ll Never Want to Wake Up

Spanning 1,115 feet from stem to stern and standing 14 stories above the sea, I had never seen something so impressive. I could have stood outside in awe and still been dumbfounded for hours, but luckily they let me board. If I thought the exterior was majestic, I had no idea what awaited for me inside.
I’m talking about Disney Cruise Lines’ newest ship, the Disney Dream. I was fortunate enough to have sailed on her Christening Cruise and am overwhelmed with the discovery of my new favorite way to travel. Nothing I had ever seen before compared to the architecture, the design, the imagination, the innovation and the pixie dust of the Disney Dream.
Based out of Cape Canaveral, Florida and offering 3-5 night Bahamian cruises, the Disney Dream holds up to 4,000 passengers in 1,250 staterooms. I was so pleased to see the rooms were spacious (the smallest room is 204 square feet), well-lite and beautifully decorated with a nautical theme. The bathrooms are split into separate shower and toilet facilities. Disney Cruise Lines also offers something unique that makes them innovators in the future of staterooms.
Each inside facing room has a magical porthole that has real-time views of the outside. There are even magical glimpses of Disney characters ‘flying by’.
One of the best things about being onboard a Disney Cruise ship is visiting Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the northern Bahamas. My son, Sam, and I spent most of our time at Scuttles Cove, a unique family experience for those with young children.
They offers free child care in case parents want to wonder without their little ones, but what makes this daycare unique is that the same counselors that entertain and care for your children on board, are the same counselors that are at Scuttles Cove. That way, your children have a sense of continuity in their caregivers. Sam and I opted to play together in the shallow end of the ocean and had the time of our lives.
What surprised me the most about my time on the Disney Dream was my lack of desire to get off the ship. We had a wonderful day at Castaway Cay, and I’m glad we experienced it, but I would have been just as happy to stay on board and enjoy everything the ship has to offer. I originally thought that being on a ship would drive me a little stir crazy – like when you are in a hotel room for too long – but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There is something for everyone on board the Disney Dream. Children, tweens, teens and adults will all find what they seek be it refuge, relaxation or non-stop fun. The AquaDuck, the first rollercoaster at sea, is bound to be a family favorite. Personally, Sam and I loved the Pirate party complete with pirate games, the first firework show at sea and an appearance by Captain Jack Sparrow himself. My son is still talking about it today!
I won’t even start talking about the food because I could go on and on for hours just about the restaurants alone. Let it suffice to say that the food is one of the most memorable parts of the adventure. My mouth is watering just thinking of it!
I could go on and on about this amazing experience but better yet, you should try it. It’s a must-do for any Disney fan and an experience you will cherish forever.
