Today we have an awesome guest post from actress and activist Alysia Reiner! She’s talking all about healthy eating for kids!
Thank you so much for asking me to guest blog about green mom eating!
When thinking about what to write, I decided to take a page from your title and talk about easy ways to carry around super yummy healthy food … how to make your sippy cup healthy!
First off, I start every morning putting a pinch of Probiotics (I love garden of Life Primal Defense Formula) in Liv’s water cup. I try to stick with water most of time, but sometimes do herbal tea sweetened with a wee bit of stevia.
And in reference to what kind of sippy we use:
We love the Thermos Foogo Phases Leak Proof Straw Bottle in Pink!
It’s BPA free, re-useable, and can keep things hot or cold! We add ice & lemon to water to stay cool all summer, or make a warm kiddo version of soy chai lattes in winter as a treat.
And as for the rest, I, and my babe Liv, are huge fans of the THINK BABY lunch set!
It keeps food fresh & yummy, and has ( KNOCK ON WOOD!) never spilled.
The bowls & box are great for finger foods, veggies, pasta, even yogurt (buy the big container – less plastic!) etc on the road. I love to throw some sliced cucumber, carrot bites, edemame, or mini tomatoes in them for snacks.
I also love both https://www.itzyritzy.com & https://www.snacktaxi.com/ sacks for sandwiches, dry snacks, muffins, hard boiled eggs, you name it!
I use them again & again; they’re super easy to rinse out and can even be thrown in the washing machine.
Liv loves WRAPS of late & I LOVE that so many companies now make organic, gluten-free sprouted wraps to make these healthy snacks simpler for mammas. I can throw all kinds of bite-sized veggies (some favs are sprouts, avocado & spinach ) in there, hummus, organic turkey, veggie burgers, left overs, you name it.
You can also make a sweet version with fruit & almond butter!
And last but not least, dessert 🙂
I love to make homemade pops for Liv – especially in summer – and these are plastic free & great:
Just puree some fruit, and I love to add all sorts of other stuff – flax meal, coconut flakes, almond or coconut milk, yogurt–experiment, it’s a lot of fun!
I also make green protein shakes, or fruit & yogurt smoothies for Liv in the morning (she LOVES them) and if there are leftovers, I just make pops – presto, no waste!
Hope you enjoy all my healthy eating ideas, and if you want more, follow me on twitter (@alysiareiner) – ask me questions & watch for more green momma tips & recipes!
